Here is a truly stupid rules question, appropriately enough inspired by a Puzzles and Challenges post (http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=2826.msg47989#msg47989).
Vault says: "Each other player may discard 2 cards. If he does, he draws a card."
Suppose I have only 1 card in hand, and my opponent plays Vault. May I discard just 1 card? If so, would I not draw a card?
I suspect the answer is yes and yes, and it is a very interesting interaction between the "you may" and "if you do" clauses.

I also suspect yes and yes. I would suggest trying it on Iso and seeing what happens there, but as it's not working I had to result to normal cards. I discarded one and then I had to check the rules to find out if I should draw a card. I got bored of paper and cardboard and gave up. Stupid lack of IRL algorithms telling me what to do :(

And now I actually have checked the Prosperity rulebook, the Vault FAQ clears this up:
If one of the other players has just one card, he can
choose to discard it, but will not draw a card.
So there you go.

This is consistent with Trading Post's rules too (other than the "may" part)

You had only Victory Cards!
Or, you had an Estate and 4 copper and he played 4 Cutpurses!

Or, more important, before someone else plays a Masquerade, forcing you to pass your Province to someone else...

If a player has only one card in hand, and chooses to discard 2 cards, he does as much as possible (discard 1 card). Then the game asks, "Did he discard 2 cards?" The answer is no, so he doesn't get to draw a card.
The main point is that the phrase "If you do" means "If you performed the action" not "If you made the choice to perform the action"

Especially great if you start your hand with 5 Tunnels.
