RIP MF
jk good riddance
-
This is a bit late, but MF wasn't that bad. The biggest complaint anyone can send their way is that they were slow at implementing cards (which everyone wants) and implementing features that the more serious Dominion community cared about. They did eventually make a system I was happy with, but by the time it got there it was too late.
The worst memories I have of the online Dominion client come from the Goko era, not the Making Fun era.
-
I think 'too little, too late' captures it. At the end, I had fun.
And, as it stands, I liked some things of MF more than Shuffle It.
But that's not the real comparison: one of them is a trained veteran, the other one is just new. The margin of progression is way higher in Shuffle It, so very high hopes.

MF was that bad. The only reason why it feels like they weren't that bad is that they were an improvement over Goko, so the change was a welcome one when MF entered the picture.

Remind me what was bad about Making Fun's computer version of Dominion. To me it seemed pretty great overall. The mobile version was admittedly a joke (online only, etc.).

Reconnect did not always work after short internet hickup.
Missing rejoin feature after computer crash or failed reconnect.
Consumed too much resources even in main menu.

Good luck picking which card to topdeck with Scheme.
I hope you like clicking and dragging for things like Watchtower and Navigator. But don't drag to the wrong place accidentally!
Inability to program a new expansion within a year of knowing the cards.
Plus stuff already mentioned above.
-
MF crashed a lot but was a decent implementation. With that said, ShuffleiT still has a long way to go.
-
Yeah, managing to play an entire game on MF where I bought Navigator without a single misclick will forever be the highest achievement I will ever have in Dominion, no matter how high I might get on the leaderboard.
But in all seriousness though, if my computer runs out of battery during a game of Hearthstone, I can go to my mom's computer and continue playing that game. The same can be said about Prismata. That's what a reconnect feature is supposed to do in 2016, but that's not what Making Fun's reconnect feature did.

Your mama's so well-connected, even the President asks to use her Rolodex.
That... didn't work out so well. Carry on.
-
MF at least had catchy music and animations.
This abysmal new client doesn't even have Chrystal Ball! jeez
-
Making Fun did some things right but the problems still present in online Dominion at the close were problems identified in the Goko beta, years ago. Isotropic did many things better.

The issue I found with MF is that they didn't have the resources and/or willingness to make the many quality of life improvements it could have received.
I feel like I have some sort of Stockholm syndrome when playing the new client. I get to a point where it asks me to confirm if I want to trash something with Lookout or whatever and I hesitate at the "confirm trash" pop up menu. Similar story when it comes to Stonemason overpay, where it's like "I just choose the first card I would want to gain to lock in the price for the second card? Where's the catch?".
Reordering is a lot better though.

You can turn off confirmation for single trashes/discards in the settings.

Oh I know, but it was a shock to even see it as an option. The undo function also came in handy for one of my opponents when Poacher started to discard cards.

For me it was the fact that after one of the updates it simply stopped working on my computer. For some time playing with older version worked , but then it forced to update and I was out of online Dominion. It was a pity as I had just had a lot of fun in my first few league seasons and could not finish the last one properly due to this technical issue.
Now I am looking forward to testing the new online implementation after the first wave of bugs is cleared in a month or so and hope to have fun playing this great game again :)

Yes, this was the biggest negative for me, too. At the beginning it was bad. For a while it was fine, but then in this last year it got bad again.
So, I am happy to see the new client handling the under the hood stuff much better from my perspective, even if the graphics and interface are arguably worse at this moment in time.
