Title: Let's Discuss Landmarks: Colonnade

Architecture pro tip: Add a mirror to each end of a colonnade.

While I love how the name fits the thing it does, I'm really not sure if this leads to interesting games. It mainly seems to encourage monolithic strategies - Minion, Hunting Party, that kind of stuff. Oh boy, can it get crazy with Peddlers. I think it's just too often "Hey cool, I get to do that thing I wanted to do anyways and even get VP for it" rather than "Now I could do this one thing that isn't just as good for my deck as the other things, but I would get VP for it". I guess it pushes engine strategies, so that's something.

- Is this a Village idiot's new second favorite card-shaped thing?
- Which are the kind of cards that you get more of with Colonnade around than you would without?
- Can you think up any weird edge cases that work with the "when you buy" trigger?

Village Idiot isn't nearly as dumb with this in play.

Basically the way I see this playing out most of the time is that this changes the order you buy cards in. While you might normally buy Smithy Village Smithy Village Smithy Village, you are more likely going to get something like Smithy Smithy Village Village Vilage Smithy based on what you have in play. So you have an incentive to build your deck "wrong".

Cheap useless cantrips love this, because $2 for a cantrip that gives you twice as much VP as Great Hall and also sort of does something else is a good value. Token based strategies also love this since you are already buying a lot of a card you want to upgrade later.

The on buy trigger I think is necessary for this not to get ridiculous with Ironworks or whatever.

Villa + cost reduction or Forum + cost reduction = take all the VP chips and empty a pile in the process.

Of course, if there's cost reduction in the kingdom, chances are there are a LOT of chips already gone, but I can dream.

This also seems kind of not-fun. Man, I'm not really liking these Landmarks. Then again, Events sort of grew on me over time.

That's the gimmick of a lot of landmarks, making you do things you wouldn't otherwise. You can read more here: http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=15966.0
