Who says "I'm gonna help scum if I'm scum"? I don't know if it's newbie town being too unnecessarily thorough or newbie scum being too cautious, but I'm leaning toward the latter.

In fact, I'm definitely on the side of the latter. What town narrative prompts someone thinks that? I can think of it being newbie scum afraid to lie, or newbie scum thinking "if I just say I'm town they'll think I'm suspicious! Gotta make sure to be extra careful!"

Thanks for making me explain, it just made me a lot more sure of this vote.

This Mafia game made me start watching Battlestar Galactica. At least I need to know what is a Colonist and a Cylon.

Some common ones...

Doctor - protect someone from a NK (Town Role)
Cop - Find out if someone is Mafia or not (Town Role)
RB - Block someone's action (Town or Scum Role)
Redirector - Redirect Action from A to B (Town or Scum Role)
Rolecop - find out what power someone has (Town or Scum Role)
Vigilante - Town who can kill someone at night (Town Role)
Bulletproof - passive power, survives one kill (Usually Town Role)
Commuter - can go away at night, isn't affected by anything (Usually Town Role)
Neighborizer - create a private chat with someone else (Town or Scum Role)
Godfather - Passive; if targeted by the Cop he gets an innocent result (Scum Role)

And then there are the two prominent 3d party roles who are neither Town nor Mafia, which are

Survivor - Wins if the is alive at the end of the game
SK - wins if everyone else is dead.

Beyond this, we shouldn't talk about roles yet. The setup is closed, we literally have no idea what is in this game

Being scum was on his mind before he knew his role, as documented in the quote that I shared before reading the thread where he said "I hope I'm scum." So that provides some framework for him to make a comment like that in RVS. I found it less scummy than you did I believe.

However, I love a good Teamlyle vote, so I won't argue your points too much

None besides the 2 games that I played. I really want my reads to be better this game, and I was joking because I thought we were still in RVS.
