Title: Solo Challenge 4 - So you think you can do better?
Post by: Ozle on March 12, 2012, 06:07:39 pm
Sooooo.....for this challenge I thought I would pit you up against something else.

The following Kingdom was voted the favourite one from the recent championship, won by olneyce.

Menagerie, Tunnel, Ghost Ship, Governor, Inn, Monument, Worker's Village, Grand Market, Goons, Adventurer
Well, the challenge is to score as many points as you can AND end the game on turn 17!

As a guideline, olneyce managed to score an impressive 89 points , with an opponent. Think you can do better?

There is another secret bonus point for this one, but I reckon it will be quite an easy one.

You have until 10pm GMT on Tuesday

The only downside to using this set is the presence of Ghost Ship. A devastating attack in multiplayer, it is strictly inferior to Governor in solitaire.

Yep, never going to be perfefct though taking a two player game and moving it into one. Plus, there are always going to be dead cards that no one uses, no matter how hard i think them through.

Had two entries already, with some preeeety good scores!

Interesting challenge. I don't think this was mentioned before but the challenges are without col/plat I presume?

Interesting challenge. I don't think this was mentioned before but the challenges are without col/plat I presume?

I used Plat in the last challenge and nobody said anything about it. If the cards give more than a 0% chance of them being included and nothing is explicitly said about them in the challenge, I see no reason not to use them.

For this one just use the cards above. In future i'll state whether you can use plat or colony! I figured if i said 'use these cards' then people would just use those.

Fair enough. For the last one I copied and pasted the card selection into the requirements box and it gave my Col/Plat, so I saw no reason not to use them.

I just sent in what I think is a very competitive entry, but I've been shocked by the tricks others have pulled before. We'll see!

This challenge was really tough as every decision you make can have a big difference in your score.  I expect there to be a huge range of scores and the top two may not be particularily close to each other.

Im loving the toughness, and the fact that its not a super quick game you can endlessly repeat.

Pretty much all the scores are waaay higher than i expected!

Right, been through the results....and first off, let me say WOW!

I liked this one, even though the cards to buy were all fairly obvious, looking at the buy order made a lot of difference!

I knew there would be some high scoring games, but not quite this high!

So, in third place, with 568* points

(*He used Colonies, but I just took the points for them off which means they penalised him rather than helped, and he didnt use platinums)

And then a 60 point jump up into 2nd place, with 625 points which was leading for a very long time.

WanderingWinder wins the Buys Most Coppers award.  No surprise there.
