As I posted in game reports, I played a 2-player game in which both players opened Hamlet/Talisman and then both drew them together turn 3 and emptied the Hamlet pile. Is there any other way of emptying a pile on Turn 3 of a 2-player game? What other ways exist in games with various numbers of players to empty piles as fast as possible?

Can be done with Woodcutters also.
Both players open Talisman/Woodcutter.
Both players draw Talisman/Woodcutter/Copper/Copper/Copper. This gives $6 and 2 buys
Both players buy two Woodcutters and gain two more.
You could also replace Hamlet with Herbalist. I can't think of any more off the top of my head, but there might be one or two.

2 player game
Both players open Woodcutter/Embargo.
EDIT: Should be 'Both players open Hamlet/Embargo'
On turn 3 Player 1 embargoes the curses and buys 2, gaining 4 total.
Player 2 embargoes the curses buying 2, gaining 6 total.
Pile empty.

Has there been a puzzle posted for fastest way to 3-pile? It would probably involve Talisman and +buy shenanigans like this. If not, maybe haggler.... and maybe something with Duchy/Duchess? Ill-Gotten Gains?

How can they embargo and buy 2? Embargo doesn't give +buy and Woodcutter doesn't give +action. Am I missing something? Did you mean Worker's Village?

You arent missing something. I wasn't thinking. Should be a hamlet instead of a woodcutter. I'll update that.
EDIT: Added probably unnecessary spoiler tag.

I edited my post too -- I thought maybe you were thinking Worker's Village. Hamlet works too.
Am I going overboard on spoilers tags? :P

Never too many spoiler tags. Actually Maybe I should Spoiler my previous post. Ok, I'll do that as well.
Also it works with market and festival. Really any +action/+buy

Might as well point out that there are some obvious upper bounds for 10 and 5-player games.

With 5 players you can empty a pile in 2 turns.
Turn 1
P1 opens Noble Brigand (Flipping a bunch of estates)
P2-P5 open talisman.
Turn 2
P2-P5 Play talismans and buy talismans.
Actually the pile is empty after P4s turn, but we still needed all 5.
-
2 players empty Estates in Turn 3:
Both players open Baron + Estate, then draw 4 Coppers + Baron. Both play Baron to gain an Estate and use the two buys to buy 2 more Estates.

This works for 3+ players too.

Or just have everyone open ambassador/ambassador.

I guess I hadn't thought about 5 players just emptying piles on their two buys. But you give me an idea to do it with 4P.
Turn 1
P1 opens Noble Brigand.
P2,3,4 open Ambassador.
Turn 2
P1 buys estate.
P2,3,4 Ambassador estate returning none, buying an estate. That drains 4 estates per player. More than enough for the 12 in the supply.

Fun fact: Council Room lists over 30 Noble Brigand openings (http://councilroom.com/openings?card=Noble+Brigand) that are worse than Noble Brigand / Estate

There are several general methods where this is possible:
1. Have both players open talisman/cheap card with +buy. Any of the two coin cards with +buy (e.g. pawn) should work. Wood cutters works, but I believe it is the only terminal silver at 3 with a +buy.
2. The estates can be depleted. Because only eights cards need be bought, we can adopt a strategy of buy a card, then buy an estate, and then play a card and get 3 estates. I believe only baron allows for this.
3. Actively buying embargoed curses. Play anything that comes with +1 buy and +1 action on T3 (e.g. pawn, market, hamlet, etc.) followed by an embargo and then buy two curses and gain two more. Next player does the same and then buys two and gains four depleting the curse pile.
I believe that covers all possible ways to deplete on a pile in 2er on T3.
