Title: Baron/Haggler better than double-Jack?
Post by: catsclaw on December 30, 2012, 11:53:21 am
I figured I'd just go straight double Jack on this set.  My opponent kind of screwed around with Caravan/Haggler/Baron/Cartographer.  But he still beat me.  What should I have done differently?

Sometimes 15+/-2 loses to 16+/-2.

I think Caravan and Cartographer are very good enablers for your Baron and Haggler. I would bet on your opponent's strategy if I have to.

Not sure why you'd want to go straight double Jack on this set (or nearly any set, for that matter...). There is a Witch! Already Witch + Jack > Jack. And then when your opponent opens Baron, you should surely want to get Witches. Witch can mess up the Baron pretty badly.

There's also Baron + SR to consider.

I'm not sure the simulator will get cartographer+baron right so I just put in haggler/caravan/cartographer and the simulator suggests it's a good strategy. The haggler gets good hands, buys high value cards, gains high value cards. Your opponent had good draws with his baron so that didn't cause a problem in your game.

Even though it's good strategy, it should still lose to jack+witch.
