So lonely over here in Europe :(

I spent a semester in York as an undergrad!

You think you are lonely? Look at Japan.
-
Well, give it some time for the map to build up.
Hey, 4 entries in the UK! And they're all about 100 miles apart and two of them are both me anyway!
-
Those who have signed up on the map so far are pretty spread out, nobody in SoCal yet besides me and Axxle. Ah well.
-
Likewise, I would have thought there'd be more than just me and rrenaud in New York.
-
Woohoo, first Dutchy (not Duchy) :D!
I wonder if Teproc plays Le Havre often...
-
Likewise, I would have thought there'd be more than just me and rrenaud in New York.
In a few months there will be.

Does that mean I'm going to be all by myself in Philly?

Hey, you lived in Philly!?! Where!?! I spent nine years of my life living near Allentown.

I'm in West Philly.

Oh hey the map is filling in! Moar people are joining! Cool.

I moved!

I actually didn't, and it worked out okay. Proving once again that Scout is unnecessary. (Until Dark Ages comes out!) ;D
-

Added myself! Let's play some games some time.
-
Added myself to NZ - Wellington.
Seems a bit loonely, but actually we have a luchtime game almost every day. Multiple times two 3-4 player, and it is spreading :D
-
Finally someone in Asia with me!
-
Added myself. Surprisingly there is even someone who lives half an hour away from me in this Forum.
-
Hey! There's 2 people besides me in San Diego now! I should organize something sometime.
-
Oh hey, there are actually people who live near Chapel Hill (Where I'll be for most of October...) Might be fun to get some games together. I will totally have Dark Ages by then.

i grew up in pittsboro!

Anyone else keep checking the map over and over to see if anyone else shows up in their area? I've got to imagine there's more than 4 in Chicagoland...
-
I have, heh. It would be so much less depressing if I just checked it more infrequently..
-
I'll be in Evanston in a month!

I'll be in Evanston in a month!
This your first year there?
-
Yeah, I'm pumped.
-
Nice, have fun, I've never been there but have only heard great things.
-
I'll be in Evanston in a month!
You and me. We must get together. Are you going to Evanston for university?
-
Just saw this for the first time (and added). Feel free to hit me up for some games! :)
-
So that makes 2 aussies now :D
-
I just realized that when I added myself, I didn't specify anything other than the city, so my pin is smack in the middle of downtown. That's not where I live, and I can't figure out how to change it.

Indeed I am.

Can't say anything about the school, but I can say the neighborhood is wonderful and being right on the public transit for easy access to Chicago proper is a dream. You'll love the setup.

Same here... luckily I live smack in the middle of downtown :)

I'm in the DC area now, but moving to Pittsburgh to go work for Google in a month or so :)
-
Nice. Except Pittsburgh? C'mon ;P.
-
I was surprised to be the only one in Barcelona, but turns out I'm the only one in the whole Iberian Peninsula.
We've got nice warm weather here, I guess that's why people would rather be outside. I am so lonely... [cue Lonely by Akon... yes, I am a very sad person]

I'm planning to visit Barcelona in March. Any advice? :)
-
My advice would be to not dress up as Freddie Mercury and run up to random Fat people put your arm round them and start singing "BARCELONA!!! It was the first time that we met..."

Weird, because that's the first thing I *would* suggest.

Nice! How long will you stay here? General advice, or places to visit?

I have 2 weeks total. Current plan is Andalucia + Barcelona, but alternatively Andalucia + Barcelona + French Riviera. So ~3-5 days? I do want to see a FC Barcelona game :)

Drink lots of Sangria.
Visit the City History Museum, and be utterly amazed at how they basically ignore hundreds years of Moorish occupation.
Walk around Barrio Gotico (but maybe you don't hate cars as much as me, so this won't be as cool).
More Sangria.
Visit Parc de Montjuic, it has nice views of lots of the city.
See Gaudi architecture, wonder if he is a brilliant architect, or just bad Unreal Tournament level designer who is overly in love with curved surfaces.
Eat a tortilla espanola.
-
As far as I know and according to their official site, only three games take place that month at the Camp Nou: Barça-Deportivo de la Coruña (10/03/13), Barça-Milan (12/03/2013) and Barça-Rayo Vallecano (17/03/2013). We are talking 20-80€ for the Rayo Vallecano, but 80€-160€ to see the Milan (that's expected to be a very good game, in case it wasn't obvious); there aren't many seats left, so if that's when you are going, buy the tickets now before it's too late!
About the city itself, well, obviously the two most visited landmarks are the Camp Nou (AKA the Catalan Mecca) and the Sagrada Familia (make sure to get inside, by the way, it's definitely worth the standing line); aside from that, you want to visit the "Barri Gotic" (old city center, beware the pickpockets), las Ramblas (beware the pickpockets there too) and "Passeig de Gràcia" (the most recognizable XIXth century Barcelona), anything else signed by Gaudi (at the very least you've got the "Parc Güell" left, that isn't negotiable). Then it depends on how much time you've got and the kind of things that you want to see, but the Port is nice and there's plenty of thing to do there; so is the Tibidabo (one of the hills that surround BCN), which among other things holds a 112 year old amusement park; Montjuic (with, among other things, the "Palau Nacional", AKA Catalan National Art Museum).
And in case you didn't know, most people only grudgingly speak Spanish in Barcelona, they rather speak Catalan here. On the other hand, Andalucian accent is pretty rough too, so if you were planning to improve your Spanish, tough luck :)
Where to Andalucía, by the way? Córdoba, Sevilla, Granada...?
-
I've only been to Madrid, so I won't be much help. Have fun though!
-
Ask the residents when they are going to finish that Cathedral? Its been years
-
Oops, forgot to mention that this is probably late March - early April. The plan was to see Barca v Mallorca, which I gather is not a particularly 'hot' match. When should I buy those tickets? Where should I sit in Camp Nou? Is there any concern that Barca fields a team of B players, so that I don't actually get to see Messi/Iniesta/etc.?
My Spanish is poor. My wife's is much better, but mostly Latin American. I'm going to get ready to hear a lot of "Ethh-pañol" :-)
Finally, the plan is to visit Sevilla and/or Granada. No set plan -- any recommendations? (Other than delicious sangria)

mallorca are in the relegation zone, so there is a decent chance that you will see more of a B team. but it does depend somewhat on how close the madrid teams are at that point and and whether or not the win is vital for winning the league. they have a chance at setting the record for wins and points in la liga too so you can hope they start the regular squad to achieve that.
-
Just had a look at the schedule, thats pretty close to the end of the season, 4 games left.
They are already 11 points ahead, so if things keep going as they are, they will have won the title by then.
No idea on Barca philosophy but there is potential they cold start resting players for champions league semis and later (amd they will probablybein the final of the spanish cp as well?)
As to getting a ticket, cant amswer that, but if it was England you probably would have no chance at a big london club (or man U or liverpool) but no ideaon spanish attendances

I can't really give you any piece of advice about which seat you should get, since I've never been to a game myself (I'm not really into football); however, one third of the tickets have already been sold for the Barça-Mallorca, so I wouldn't wait much longer to get them either.
About Sevilla and Granada, if you can only go to one of them, go to Sevilla, there are more things to do there; however, you'll be losing on the Alhambra... I can't really go into much detail about them, since I've seldom been there.
-
I would imagine that third would be season ticket holders though?
I'd be surprised if they were selling general public tickets this early! That would imply they have trouble selling out stadium normally
-
From my very limited interaction with Spaniards, my suggestion if you want to make friends is to bring peanut butter and bread with you and offer to make sandwiches for people you meet. Every Spaniard I've ever met goes crazy over peanut butter. (n = 3)

Barca don't really believe in rotation all that much. At least not for Messi - who in addition to being the best player in the world also appears to be pretty indestructible.
You might miss out on Xavi, or one or two others, but you'll get a good show.

Added myself - hello to my fellow Canberran!

Japan's a nice country - at least, what I saw of it over two weeks in the holidays was nice - but given how hard it was to communicate I can only imagine what it's like for someone who doesn't know any of the language.

Whatever, Raleigh isn't that far from you, and I told you where I live, which is closer to you than DC (contrary to the map).

Heh, we ended up getting residency in Columbia instead (we thought it was going to be Chapel Hill for months), but I could potentially still go to such a meeting.

So I guess I'm officially the biggest nerd in Kentucky?
-
Hey, I'm near rrenaud and Theory in NY!
-
So...that happened.
-
I can't edit my old location, I just moved. My old location is Harrisville, PA. Can someone delete that for me? I made a new one for my new address already. Anyone around Madison, WI let me know and we can play some Dominion!
-
Locations appear to still be immutable. I'm now in Sunnyvale instead of San Diego or LA.

No, I've never gone anywhere for dominion. I'll occasionally go to board game night at Labyrinth in Eastern Market in downtown, though. It's on Thursday nights, pretty cool, but unfortunately very crowded and not enough room for how many people go.

Where in Eastern Market? In that big room above the actual market? I play music outdoors in the market every summer.
-
It's just down the block from the Metro stop, a few doors down from the CVS on Penn. ave
Eastern Market is a really cool area -- that's awesome that you play music there!

I actually play music every Thursday night (except tomorrow night) in Shaw from 9-12. What time does Labyrinth happen? My housemate probably knows about this.
EDIT: I misread your previous post. Board game night at Labyrinth. Got it.

Wishing I still lived in D.C.
I had no idea you used to live in DC!
To be fair, I'm only in DC for about 2 more days.
Andrew, Labyrinth game night is on Thursdays. I have no idea when it actually starts but there's always people there at 6 or so when I've been there.

Nope. I spent way too much time (and money) at Kramerbooks & Afterwords. That was my main hang out spot. Good books+great music+amazing food was hard to pass up.

Kramers is pretty cool, definitely worth checking out.

I just found out today. I know of a few germans in the forum, but don't see most of them on the map. Well, they might also just prefer to stay locality-anonymous.
-
Added my new location in Brooklyn (well, not *that* new anymore).
I live literally 3 blocks away from you. Hi!
-
We should do that NYC forum meetup thing~
-
Added myself. Pretty interesting to see that there are members from Serbia, Macedonia, Malaysia and even Tuvalu!

Why do we not have a .tv domain name? :P
Also, I don't live in Leiden anymore. Is there a way to move your icon?

Ditto. I'd like mine moved to London

I think you can only just make a new icon. I'm moving to Connecticut tomorrow for a couple months, then up to New Hampshire. Goodbye, Virginia!
-
Yeah you can only make new icons.
Speaking of which I'm in Chicago this week!

If you were a crazy prepared weirdo like me and you saved the URL you got when you made the map entry, you can edit it via that URL.

woohoo!

I moved to Philly recently, gotta drop a third dot on here.

Probably should have mentioned this eariler, but I'm in Easton, PA now. Anyone want to play some games?

We should definitely all hang out some night. I think Skumpy is going back to school soon? DatSwan and Raptor work in SJ, I'm out of Mountain View. So we're all super local to each other.

I'm much younger than all of you and I'm very socially awkward and quiet (I think there's an inverse between talking on online forums and talking in real life), but I'm around for another few weeks.
