Any thoughts RE: Holliday's slide last night? Dirty or clean? Inside or out of the "spirit of the rule"?
Obviously as a Giant's fan I can't be pleased, but I'm very happy with the way the Giant's handled it. You don't get payback by knocking the guy in the ear with high heat - you get even by taking your anger out on the opposing pitcher. The last thing any team wants to do is wake up a slumbering offense (and there is no question the Giant's were sleeping sound prior to that).
As for the slide itself... I think it was uncalled for. Had that been Pablo tackling late the Cardinal's would be in an uproar - and quite right to be so. It was beyond a "good, clean hard slide". I have no doubt Holliday meant no harm to Scutero, but the play wasn't safe, and it IS how people get hurt. "I'm sorry" just doesn't cut it when you're talking about someone's season - especially this late in the year.
I think you'll see the Giant's plunk Holliday next year, probably in his back (not head), and I doubt you'll hear too much complaining from the Cardinal players (fans are another question). That's baseball. But I hate seeing anybody put at risk due to an over aggressive, unsafe play. And that's how I saw the slide.
