I still think 'Develop has a Penis' is one of the best F.DS threads of all time.

Top 10 boards where Scout is terrible.

Better make that 100.

More like 300 choose 9 or so...

Top 10 Star Wars movies!  Wait a minute...

That list HAS to include the Holiday Special. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE

No, there's the Clone Wars...

There's the 6 Star Wars movies, the 2 awesome cartoon ones, the Clone Wars CGI movie, and nothing else... Except the Holiday Special. When Episode 7 comes out, #10 will be a crapshoot between The Clone Wars (movie and animation) and The Phantom Menace.

I didn't know about the 2 awesome cartoon ones, and was thinking Seprix was talking about episodes 1-9 and the special.

They're not out yet, so I don't want to count them. Seriously, watch those cartoon ones. They're awesome.

And by the time 9 is out, Rogue One (and possibly more Anthology movies) will be out, so still no need to count the Holiday Special :)

Peddler walks into a bar.  Orders a bag of potato chips.  The bag won't open.  Caravan Guard says, "hey, let me help with that..."  No luck.  Familiar steps in.  No can do.  Herald?  Fail.  Urchin gives it a try.  No luck.  Spy, Page, Junk Dealer... Nope, nope, nope.  "Screw it!  I'll have the fries instead," says Peddler to the bartender.

"Not so fast!"  It's Explorer.  "Give me that."  She effortlessly tears the bag open and hands it back to Peddler.

"You have to open it from the line where it says 'Tear here'," she explains.  Grateful for the advise, the Peddler thanks her and enjoys her snack.

Later that day, a turn unexpectedly ended when someone tried to play Peddler without a Village...

3/10 Does not work with my accent, would not read again.

How do you say "cantrip"?

I can't speak for qmech, but for me I think the issue is not so much that I pronounce "cantrip" differently, but that I pronounce "can't rip" differently.

It seems to me that the joke works best in an American accent.

I don't know how best to explain it, because I'm no linguist and I can't follow that IPA notation.
To me, Americans say "can't" as "KAANT" and I (an Australian) say "KARNT".

Cantrip to me is "KAANTRIP", so I can see how the joke works in American English.

To do it without IPA and have it make sense to all:  for non-NA English "can't" rhymes with "font" (approximately).*  In NA dialects, "can't" rhymes with "ant."  I may be wrong, but I believe Brits say "ant" with the flattened tense a sound.

*Ignoring those NA dialects where "font" rhymes with "haunt"** because let's face it, something's wrong with those people.

**And further ignoring British dialects where "haunt" rhymes with NA "can't".  I can't even.

I don't understand how these two words can rhyme.

For me, "can't" rhymes with "aunt". Having said that, for some "aunt" probably sounds like "ant". To me, "aunt", sounds like "aren't". Of course, I don't really pronounce the "r" in "aren't".

I can't follow that IPA notation.

How do you learn to pronounce foreign languages then?

How do "font" and "haunt" not rhyme, or at least very very near rhyme?

I currently imagine mail-mi wearing a dark trenchcoat and a bowler hat, hunched over a bit, toothpick in his mouth, holding a gun in his pocket.  One bead of sweat trickling down his nose.

"Haunt" is a lot longer than "font".

So are there any linguists here who would like to tag all jokes with the proper regional dialect tags from now on?

"Haunt" is a lot longer than "font".

Also, they sound nothing like each other.

I went hunting for some examples on Youtube.  The first video I tried opened "Today I'm going to talk about English pronounciation...".

Do you say "faunt" or "hont"?

Hont, if I'm understanding the question right. Also to me rhymes with want/gaunt/taunt.

To me, want and font rhyme, and haunt, gaunt and taunt rhyme. Still don't get how the two groups can rhyme though.
