Using bots to hack your shuffle luck?!

I just had an interesting encounter.  I spanked this Adama fellow on an Ambassador board mainly because he played it badly.  I was able to piledrive the Provinces, and just before I bought the last one to end the game we had this little exchange:

10:39 Adama: holy shenanigans batman... nice bot you got there
10:39 jaybeez: wait sorry, what?
10:40 Adama: you.
10:40 Adama: fraud
10:40 jaybeez: I swear I'm made of flesh
10:40 Adama: no way you could've drawn the way you did
10:40 jaybeez: hahaha
10:40 Adama: see ya cheater
10:40 Adama has returned to the lobby

Have there been people in the past who have somehow hacked Iso to give themselves better shuffle luck?  I'm guessing this dude's just a moron, but still, I'm intrigued.

Adama is a troll.  He insults me after games and I'm pretty sure others have posted about him on here too.  Don't take anything he says seriously.

Damn, you're right.

And thank you for confirming my suspicions, jsh.  Although I'm almost a little disappointed that my theorized "shuffle luck bot" doesn't really exist.  I was all excited to learn about how it was done, and what the Iso devs did to close the security hole :)

There was an exploit a while back that let you buy whatever you want since purchases were done clientside.  Platinum/Platinum opening for the win!

That's actually a pretty bad opening... if you are playing against someone using the same loophole, and he opens Colony/Colony, you lose. I wonder though, was the server at least checking the number of available buys, if not the amount of coin it costed? Because buying 8 Colonies on turn 1 is probably the strongest move.....

I was just referring to the infamous log.  Funner to start Plat/Plat then Colony/Colony though.

All moves which end the game with a win on t1 have equivalent strength.

Of course, that was on Goko, not Isotropic. AFAIK, there hasn't been a bug like this on Isotropic.

There was, a long time ago. You could only buy as many cards as you had buys that turn (so no 8 Colonies turn 1), but you could buy whatever you wanted. It wasn't a well known exploit, and it was brought to Doug's attention pretty quick. So now you can't.

Not sure if the log is recoverable.

http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=2291.msg36705#msg36705 . Dougz posted about fixing it on April 26, 2012 (when it came to his attention) and the game was played in February 2011.

The funniest part of that topic is that if you read the next couple posts, you get this.

Gotta try this for the official app.  ;D

Edit: And if you read further down, you see a post about specifying cards in the Kingdom, and how at least Iso doesn't force you to click 10 boxes out of all possible cards. Which last I heard is how Goko tried to handle Wishing Well with emptied piles.

you missed a golden chance to pretend that you are a robot!

Of course, that was on Goko, not Isotropic. AFAIK, there hasn't been a bug like this on Isotropic.
Nope, iso too: http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=2291.msg36525#msg36525

Not sure if the log is recoverable.

Well I'll be! I forgot about that one. Goko had this exact same problem, right? Or, at least a similar one, where it didn't check if you actually had the card you said you were playing, so that if Bridge was in the kingdom, you could play 8 Bridges on turn 1. I guess it's an easy bug to miss!

Well it's not just with empty piles.  You should be allowed to name any card.  You can get lots of extraneous cards like Spoils, Madman, Mercenary, or the bane.  You can have the name any of the five prizes.  You may well want to name any card from the black market deck, Ruins pile, or Knights pile even though there is not a single pile corresponding to the name.  And then there are the three shelters, which are never in a pile (aside from the trash pile).  And beyond all of that, there are edge cases where you purposefully don't want to guess the card properly, but may have every card name in your deck due to a Fairgrounds strategy, and so you ought to be able to guess a name which none of the available cards have.

It's probably not the best fix, but at least it was a quick patch which works.

You know, I'd be okay if the rules defined 'card' as 'official dominion card', such that when you are instructed to name a card, you must name a card that does, in fact, exist within the game of Dominion.

Dominion doesn't know what a three of spades is. Dominion doesn't know what a Mirror Force is. Dominion doesn't know what a Ken's Tatsumaki is. Dominion doesn't know what a Bulbasaur is.

Noobs... obviously it is best to deplete every pile on the board on turn 1....

Incredible that no one is more understanding, when human civilization has been destroyed by super-intelligent robots who look exactly like us, it is no wonder Adama is a bit paranoid while playing Dominion.
