What would the ultimate +cards/+actions engine be?

What do you think the best kingdom for a engine based on +cards/+actions? Not anything like a Minion or Goons engine, or something like HP or SP, that doesn't count.

I think it should include Chapel, obviously. FV is probably the best village, some +cards (like Wharf) and some other stuff.
Preliminary list:
-Chapel
-TfB? (Salvager, Bishop, etc. maybe some remodel thing, probably Butcher)
-Fishing Village
-One other village? (something like Wandering Minstrel, or a expensive one, like Festival or Baazar)
-Wharf
-Some other draw? (like Catacombs or Journeyman or maybe Hunting Grounds)
-Sifting? (Warehouse, etc.)
-?
-?
-?

Thoughts?

How do you define "best"?  Fastest to end of game?  Fun to play?

Biggest thing really is to have strong enough attacks to slow the money deck down. Pillage maybe? Also fairgrounds to give you another pile of provinces. Colony+platinum to make the game last longer.

I guess how fast it wins, or basically it's win rate against a chosen deck (probably BM/X or something). You could think of it as competing the kingdoms against eachother to see which engine in each would beat the other.

Yeah, definently Colony. Fairgrounds is probably a good call. Maybe Rabble would be a good alt drawer, or something like that.

I bet Highway and maybe Bridge would also be useful.

Unrelated, I'm also going to say no mega turn engines.

King's court to supercharge whatever the engine is doing. There are very few engines that don't get better with some King's Courts.

You probably want either sifting OR strong trashing, but have no need for both; if you Chapel away all your starting cards, you probably won't have any need for a Warehouse unless you're using it to activate Tunnels or something.

Oh yeah, duh.

So far I've got this:

Chapel
Kings Court
Fishing Village
Wharf
Rabble
Bridge (or Highway)
Fairgrounds
Scheme
Other village (right now Bazaar)
Nobles (Alt VP is good for engines, right?)
Colonies, Shelters.

Good point. As you can see, I chose trashing.

Highway could be better (but in an amazing engine you probably don't need to worry about it), it's non-terminal and the other cards seem to be producing the buys.

Chapel is actually not the greatest for setting up super-strong engines like one built on Wharf/FV, because the engine doesn't need such extreme trashing, and the trashing turns waste buys you could spend on engine components. I'd rather have Masquerade. (If Ambassador is allowed, that'd be swell for its attack.)

Also Quarry is missing. Masquerade/Quarry is a ridiculously strong opening for engines.

Wouldn't this board tend more towards KC-Bridge than a classic smithy/village engine?

Maybe throw a Baker in there, just so you can open Wharf/FV.

Quarry is a good suggestion, especially with some supporting +buy. I wonder if the best route might actually be a Scrying Pool + Cantrip engine, with Quarry support and Pawn being both the +buy and the cantrip. SP can get some crazy draw in a thinned deck, but it won't exactly work with a +card/action engine that wants to get its money from treasure.

I guess we should clarify what constraints are intended for a cards/actions engine. What makes a deck not +cards/+action? Is the engine just supposed to draw a bunch of treasure, or do conspirator & Grand Market engines count? Is cost reduction a separate type of engine, or can we count Scrying Pool + Highway? Are we supposed to be buying victory cards, or can we examine Highway + Gainer? Do megaturn decks count, or only ones that are at least mildly sustainable?

Fishing Village/Torturer.

If the only engine on the board is Procession->Conspirator, I will play it.
