The 'card being trashed' state turns on when you trash a card and turns off when you finish resolving all on trash effects. So you trash cultist, draw 3 cards and then resolve other on trash effects including MS discards even if you just drew it.

This is sort of the same principle by which you can reveal a Secret Chamber, swap a card in your hand for a Moat from the top of your deck, and then reveal the Moat.

Bomb, Cannon, and many of the Gunpowder cards can strongly effect gameplay, particularly in a destructive way
