Title: Oscar The Grouch
Post by: WanderingWinder on June 23, 2012, 09:28:06 am
You know, the CouncilRoom achievement.

I used to think 'oh, that's the Forge achievement'. And I would guess that Forge is still responsible for the majority of these. But I've noticed that it's not as near-all-of-the-achievements as I used to think. If I look through my page on this, it's not responsible for all THAT many of the OtG achievements.... And I always really like it when you see this from some other source. So this is a thread for listing those non-Forge Oscar the Grouches that you think are cool.

17 of my 25 are forge-induced. Here are the other 8:

http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20120429-124331-7aeae753.html Features a big Mining-village and farmland turn. 11 cards trashed.
http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20120529-195628-a8ce8913.html Mining Village, salvager, and farmland
http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20120428-095732-c9e4e59e.html Bishops, two of which were KC'ed
http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20110303-191442-1d42f407.html The original 'we ran out the curses and coppers' game. Goons/watchtower for the trash.
http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20110205-123709-5be272d7.html A game with forge, but here it's the mint that does the trashing.

Finally, my new favorite way to get the achievement, and I think probably the 2nd-most plentiful (I kill myself sometimes ;)): Horn Of Plenty.

Dude, you've got to pile out the moats or estates or something there, much earlier than you did. That is just cruel...

I've done some with cards already mentioned, but here's a new one and rather odd one.  Upgrade:

Of course, usefulness is another matter entirely...  :P

Expand + HoP I

Ok, I'm pretty proud of this trashing. 15 trashes in one turn all off of remodel, starting the turn with only one in the deck.

My record is 14, with a KC-Upgrade deck with which I acquired 7 Provinces without buying any. I also had a 12-trash in the same game.
http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20110608-223601-52258187.html

I also have a 12 with KC-Salvager. 64 total, oddly few of them with Forge. Conclusion: I love the hell out of trash-for-benefit shenanigans.

I feel boring; I only have one, with forge, trashing exactly 7 cards.

My best was 14 cards with Forge

Peebles plays a Forge.
... trashing 2 Estates, 4 Curses, a Sea Hag, and 7 Coppers.
... gaining a Province.

Outside of the KC-Chapel thing above and basic Mint I have 3 (22 total). They are:

http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20120619-015029-5027c77a.html - Turn 19 Apprentice, then KC-Bishop, then KC-Salvager that I had gotten out of the BLack Market the previous turn (I also earlier got both the Bishop and the Apprentice from the Black Market)
http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20120918-015218-68f74d57.html - Goons/Watchtower on turn 15
http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20130119-231651-de4c98dd.html - 7 Bishops played on the final turn (I had gained most of them earlier that turn with KC-Smugglers and then drew them into hand)

24 in total, with a maximum of 12 cards trashed at once.

16 of those are Forge things, 5 are Mint buys, and the remaining are:

King's Court, Mine, Steward (turn 14):

Got nothing to add here. All 5 of mine are via forge. Guess I should work on looking for other ways to do this.

I've got 50 Grouches, and my biggest one (14 cards) did not include Forge:

(turn 18) Apprentice'd a Colony, a Witch, an Estate, a Curse, then played 3 Silvers and 7 Coppers and bought a Mint.
http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20110918-121046-65dbea3c.html
edit: haha just realized this was a game against verikt that ended in a tie

My highest one with Forge was 12 cards:
(turn 17) Mine Copper -> Silver, Expand Estate -> Duchy, and Forge 2 Coppers, 6 Curses, 2 Silvers -> Nobles

KC-Apprentice-Goons. I KC-ed apprentice most turns to trash border villages, giving me actions to play goons and draw deck. :)

I have a few games that fit the criteria.

http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20120910-170855-0bfdcad4.html
Goons+Watchtower.  I collected two of these "non-Forge Oscars" in this one game (7 Coppers trashed on one turn, 10 on another).

http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20120816-132147-399a206b.html
Two KC'd Stewards (8 cards total).

http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20120817-124710-9aee529d.html
Three KC'd Apprecentices (and one extra), for 10 cards.

http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20120807-161357-f33e283b.html
This one's the most interesting I think, or at least the most unusual.  It's a game with Governor, Chapel, Goons, Worker's Village, Remake and Menagerie.  Once I get my engine going I buy lots of Coppers for VPs then immediately clear them out with Chapel(s) and Remake(s), along with Remaking Silvers into more WVs.  I only trash 7 cards in a turn once, but still I think it's kind of a neat engine: draw with Governors, hit opponent with Goons, trash junk with extra actions, play Menage to continue drawing, buy more junk for VPs.

I feel like Governor would be more likely to produce that result.  Although that's probably worse than getting hit with 7 or more Swindlers, because if someone plays 7 or more Governors for the remodeling option in a single turn, they're probably cleaning out the Provinces to beat you by a wide margin.
Title: Re: Oscar The Grouch
Post by: Wingnut on January 21, 2013, 06:45:21 pm
The most likely that someone might go for would probably by some sort of KC-KC-Sab-Sab-Sab I would think. It's just uncommon because getting a deck to that point usually means there are other cards that would end it before that full combo got played.
