Training Camp

Was trying to come up with a card that would say "Return this to your hand."  It would have to be spammable, do something interesting, and yet not be too powerful.  Here's what I came up with:

Training Camp - $3
Action

Choose one:

+2 Cards.  You may return this to your hand.

+2 Actions.  You may return this to your hand.  If you do, discard 2 Cards.

This effectively turns every +Action you have into 2 cards (or more). Village + Village + Village + This would make this card draw up to 2+2+2+2 = 8 cards. A return-to your hand effect should be weaker than +2 cards on a $3 card.

On its own, this is like an infinite Cellar that doesn't reduce handsize.

Hand is XDDDT (Any Card, Dead cards, Training camp).

Play Training Camp for +actions, discard Dead cards.
Play Training Camp for +cards.

Hand is XXXDT.

Repeat as often as you want until you have your four card combo in hand.  Since you have to discard two at a time, it might take some effort, but you can repeat forever until shuffle luck works out.

It gets even better if you have Smithy or another draw card because you can increase your hand size and still continue the chain.

If it was just "+1 Card" instead it might work... but then it might be too similar to Cellar, though in a rather unique package.

My submission to the recent $2 Card Design Challenge was very similar to this:

#17 (tie) - Watchman by Schneau with 5 points (Kokomo)
$2 - Action
Choose one: +1 Buy, +$1; or discard your hand. If you discarded any cards this way, draw 1 fewer cards than the number you discarded, +1 Action, and return this card to your hand.

Since you draw 1 fewer card every time, you don't get infinite cycles. It also provides an ok bonus for a second or third play of it.

What if you just boil the whole thing down --

Quilting Bee
$? - Action
+1 Card
Return this card to your hand.

Or combine the two:

Training Village
$4 - Action

+1 Card
Choose one: +2 Actions, or return this to your hand.

I dunno, I don't like the idea that  this can give you an extra card for every action you have left in your action pool. A lot of engines can get 10 available actions to spend (just start by KC-Village)... then this card effectively reads "+10 cards."

Imagine a card that said "+X cards, where X is the number of actions you have remaining." That sounds like more than a $4 card to me, and it's strictly worse than Training Village.

Hm?  Your hypothetical card costs a single action to draw X.  Training Village would cost X actions.

Oops! Indeed. It should say

Draw up to X cards, where X is the number of actions in your action pool.
For each card drawn this way, -1 action.

Certainly nowhere near as powerful as what I first said... but I still feel like Training Village is way too good for $4, especially since it self-synergizes.

What if you just reverse the effects, like Donald did with Mining Village?

Training Camp
+2 Actions
Choose 1: +1 Card or return this to your hand

This should prevent abuse in KC decks.

That sounds much worse.  You may as well just print "+infinity Actions, +1 Card".

Exactly.  That's why I worded it the way I did originally - to prevent Diadem shenanigans.

But on the flip side it's too good with KC.
