This version of Dominion has a TableTop mode specifically for All-In-One Touchscreen PC's (Intel, Sony, HP, Lenovo, and others) so that your family and friends can all play together around one device. Normal individual play modes for both online and offline play are also available in this release. In addition, this version comes bundled with Dominion's Intrigue Part 1 and Seaside Part 1 expansions (normally these expansions are $8 total, you pay $5.99 - a 25% savings). Play online against other Dominion fans, learn the game with our new tutorial, play solo against our multi-level AI's, or try your hand at the campaign-style Adventures and see how far you can get! Dominion is one of the best selling card games of all time -- try it now!

Published by FunSockets, Inc.(!?)

I think it's either regio-restricted or only available for Windows 8.1 as I can't find it in the W8 store, but am able to view it on the website.

Well, Taxman is certainly better here.

First thought: is it April Fools? Who has a touchscreen big enough to make TableTop not painful?

Touchscreens are mostly not really big enough, and you can clearly see everybody else's cards. The user interface would be a lot better if the cards were implemented using some sort of physical material so that you could easily select the correct card with tactile feedback, and hide the card faces from your opponent with view-dependent back-face culling.

Hmm?

I'm guessing this was written pre-Guilds. It does have the FunSockets name attached to it, after all.

The Goko designers were probably told to make it work smoothly on the Microsoft Surface...

How on Earth are you supposed to fit that enormous phone in your pocket?

The only part of this that excites me is the bit about more expansions coming.

Again, you shouldn't get your hopes up. I believe it's leftover copy from before Guilds was released.

Well, Taxman is certainly better here.

And Contraband a lot worse!

Anyway, besides the obvious problem of being able to see other player's hands (I suppose you would use a book to cover the screen where your cards are, or a divider like Battleship - both would make any more than 2 players impractical on any touchscreen), this raises nothing but questions.

  • Will there be more expansions after Guilds?
  • If I were to buy this app, do I have to re-buy all the expansions? (I assume not, as this app allows online play on what I assume is Goko's main server)
  • Where's the iOS app?
  • Will there be an Android app?
  • Do I have to re-buy expansions for iOS/Android when and if they come out? (once again, I assume not)
  • This has been published by Funsockets - didn't Goko ditch them? Is this an oversight, or are Funsockets still contracted to develop other Goko Dominion clients? Even if so, why are they publishing this when Goko supposedly has all rights to online Dominion?
  • What is Goko actually up to? As far as I can tell, there's been nothing but silence from Goko apart from the occasional promotion or new product.

I was under the impression that FunSockets and Goko are one and the same. I thought it was just a name change.

I would seriously doubt it.  DXV would have a fit.

  • Will there be an Android app?

Given the choice between iOS, Android, Win8 at a resolution that works on tablets, and Win8 that works on the few dozen MS Surfaces not used by businesses, Goko chose the last option.  Does this surprise anyone at all?

Funsockets and Goko were always the same company.  I don't know why they've continued to use the Funsockets name.

They're still trying to figure out how to tell their ass from a hole in the ground is what they're up to.

Funsockets was a good name when what they were building was a platform with standard parts you could swap in and out to develop games quickly.  They might have switched to Goko when it became obvious that wasn't what they were doing any more, or they might always have planned to have developer- and player-focused names.  That doesn't fit with releasing this app under Funsockets, but they could just be reverting to it to try and escape the bad publicity generated by the first Goko launch.

I thought they changed names from FunSockets because it sounds dirty.

I can't bring myself to spend $6 on something that would make the ~$200 I spent on the physical cards to go to waste lol

They won't be wasted, they'll continue to be invaluable not only when Goko goes out of business, but also every time until then that their servers are inaccessible or unresponsive.

Or any time you want to play a game without knowing everyone's hands. Or worrying about misclicks.

The answer to this may be obvious, but I find myself not sure, so I ask:

Will this work on a Microsoft Surface RT tablet?  I see that it's available in the Microsoft Store.  They've also got Race For The Galaxy!

I recognize all the weirdness and problems associated with this format, but if I can play it on my RT I'm willing to give it a go and see what it's actually like.

I wrote to support@goko.com and asked my question three days ago.  It probably comes as no surprise that I have not yet heard back from them...
