3890 points and a Black Market/Bane bug

First of all, yes, this shows how epically sad my life is. I got 3890 points in a solitaire game. Try and beat it if you're as pathetic as I am.  ;)

But that's not why I'm posting. Take a look at the number of Schemes I finished with. 11. Scheme was the Bane, so you can imagine how surprised I was to find it in the Black Market deck.

Clearly the problem has something to do with Young Witch being in the Black Market deck. Possibly it doesn't know what the Bane is when it creates the deck. Although I would say that there's a good chance that this has been considered and would have come up before, so maybe it's just an issue when you require a specific card to be the Bane, which I must admit won't happen very often. (I only discovered you could do it when I clicked on "(repeat last game)")

Heh, now that's a funny bug. As a coder I can easily see how this would happen, and it's mildly difficult to avoid.

Off the top of my head I'd fix it by choosing the Black Market deck, then choosing the Bane card, then removing the Bane card from the Black Market deck (if it's in there) and replacing it with some other card.

I'm disappointed that you only got to play your philosopher stone once in there.

He got to play it a bunch, actually... first for $0, then for $1, then $26, then $44.

Assuming the exact same setup, 4161 seems like it should be the max.  3890's a pretty good percentage of that, considering that you could be waiting a very very long time to get your first goons opening silver/nothing then just waiting for a 6$ hand....then repeating the wait for perfect hands until you start going nuts with schemes.

With Monument, isn't it theoretically possible to score infinite points in a solitaire game?

If you manage to play infinitely fast, then yes...

Also, Goons + Ambassador, like Crossroads-Goons-Goons-Ambassador-X ($4)

You can return X to the Supply and grab a random card of up to $4 every turn to consistently gain 2 VPs each turn.

It's not better than KCing and TRing Monuments, but a little more creative. :)

I deliberately avoided using anything which could result in indefinite VP tokens. I think in my attempt before this, in which I stuffed up my Scheming, I grabbed an Ambassador from the Black Market but never played it.

The following deck can earn 60 VP per turn indefinitely:

Scheme x 1
Scrying Pool x 1
KC x 6
Monument x 10
Outpost x 1

You can generate lots more VP (I haven"t optimized this) with Scheme, Scrying Pool, KC, Goons, Ambassador, Chancellor, Counting House and Outpost. You play all 10 Goons and buy lots of coppers at 10 VP each, then on your next turn you draw all your coppers with Chancellor/Counting House, draw the rest of your deck with Scrying Pool, return all the coppers with Ambassadors, and repeat.

Why is Goons not a virtually infinite source of VP (as opposed to Monument?)

Because you have to buy something, and without some extra tricks you can only buy a limited number of cards.
