Non-terminal attacks

I just noticed how few non-terminal Attack cards there are. This makes sense, of course—repeatedly attacking your opponent can be very strong and very annoying. Having Attack cards be mostly terminal makes it that much harder to just load your deck up with Attack cards so you can Attack every turn; to do that you need to either also invest in a lot of villages or run the risk of your terminals colliding.

So what are the exceptions?

Sir Bailey and Dame Molly—these are only 2 out of 10 Knights, so you can't load your deck with them
Familiar—has a Potion cost so you can't get a lot of them fast
Urchin—a very weak attack
Spy—a fairly weak attack, especially if not stacked
Scrying Pool—has a Potion cost and the fairly weak Spy attack

...and what does that leave?

Minion. The only non-terminal Attack that (a) is relatively easy to stuff your deck with and (b) reliably has a decently-strong effect on the opponent (discard-5-draw-4 is probably on average at least as effective as Margrave, and it's idempotent rather than weakened by repetition). So no wonder people find Minion annoying to play against—not just because it's disappointing to discard your hand, but because it's the only card that makes it really easy to very reliably hit with an attack of pretty decent strength.

I guess it's not really related at all, but I'm sort of disappointed that there was never a $2 Attack card. We have them at $3-$6, but I've always thought it would be really cool to see what at $2 Attack card looked like.

If Copper-junking wasn't fraught with problems, "+$2, Each other player gains a Copper, putting it in their hand" would probably be a $2.

What they have in common is that they don't stack (except Familiar, but there are only so many curses ...)
Well the Spy effect kind of stacks a little bit until you hit a bad card.

Well, squire gains you attack cards when paired with a trasher, but it doesn't really play like a $2 attack.

Lots of Attacks don't stack, though. Militia variants don't stack; Margrave anti-stacks. Familiar stacks no better or worse than Witch. Spy you want to stack, as noted. Not stacking isn't anything special about non-terminal Attacks.

I think Taxman could easily cost $2.

On a separate note, a lot of the non terminal attacks don't do more damage even if you play more than 1 of them. urchin only hurt someone once, as well as minion. scrying pool and spy do but only until you hit a bad card. familiar (with the potion cost) and 2/10 knights (tough to gain) are the only ones where playing more than one will hurt you every time.

As noted above, this isn't a special fact about non-terminal attacks. A lot of terminal attacks don't stack either.

Actually this isn't quite true, since it terminates your action after all.

RE-Cultist: It's effectively nonterminal if it's the only action in your deck.

That's true for any action card.

No, if all your action cards are Cultists then you will never be left in hand with an unplayable action (unless you choose not to play a Cultist). Not true for other terminals.

Edit: He isn't saying you only have one Cultist, he is saying the only action cards in your deck are Cultist.

Maybe it's just me, but often when Cultist is on the board I end up with a deck containing quite a few non-Cultist terminals...

Fortunately you usually also get the best village in the game during those games.
