I was surprised by the interactions in this game.

http://dom.retrobox.eu/?/20130915/log.514fd1cae4b0b79c883bbbe5.1379284491192.txt

Code: [Select]
Rabid: turn 6
Rabid plays Band of Misfits
Rabid chooses Procession
Rabid plays Procession
Rabid plays Band of Misfits
Rabid chooses Caravan
Rabid plays Caravan
Rabid draws Copper
Rabid plays Caravan
Rabid draws Estate
Rabid trashes Caravan
Rabid gains Grand Market

Code: [Select]
Rabid: turn 7
Rabid duration Band of Misfits
Rabid duration Band of Misfits
Rabid plays Caravan
Rabid draws Copper
Rabid plays 4 Copper
Rabid buys Caravan
Rabid gains Caravan
Rabid shuffles deck
Rabid draws Estate, Estate, Mountebank, Caravan, Courtyard

It looks like the Band of Misfits was set aside as a duration (caravan), but it doesn't draw you a card next turn?

The first one is still really weird to me, but yes, that is the official ruling. If you search for Band of Misfits/Procession you should find the thread.

What's the problem with the second? That your BoM-as-Caravan stayed in play? That's definitely right. It's a caravan until it leaves play and Caravan doesn't leave play until the end of your next turn.

Yes the gain $6 card is strange but I guess correct.

Not drawing cards for the "caravan" just feels wrong to me.
If it is not going to do anything should it not be cleared away (like a undiscarded to tactician).

The BoM that stayed in play was a procession, not a caravan.
Still you should have drawn 2 cards. That not happening is a bug.

Oh I see. I thought the confusion was with the BoM-as-Caravan played on T7. You should have drawn cards for the processioned caravan played on T6

Ah that makes more sense thanks.

Played T17 Real procession on caravan seemed to work OK.
So I guess it is just a bug with BoM then?

I think the problem is that if you procession a duration,  Goko waits till the start of the next turn to check what the next turn effect is.  But the BoM was  no caravan any more,  so no effect was found to execute.

from the official FAQ, "If you use Procession on a Duration card (from Seaside), Procession will stay out until your next turn and the Duration card will have its effect twice on your next turn, even though the Duration card is trashed."

Why do you get the duration effect?  When you play a duration card, it is not discarded from play until next turn, and it has an effect next turn.  I take it that the effect next turn is not contingent on its staying in play, but "locked in" when the card is played.

Incidentally, is there any particular reason that thrones remain in play when you play them on duration cards?  It's basically an extra rule/exception, right?

The idea is that it's a reminder - in the usual case, you should be able to see what the next-turn effects are based on the cards which stay out. So that most of the time, you don't need to wonder "hmm, what did I do last turn? Did I throne my caravan or my wharf?" because the cards stay out.

Various edge cases can make the reminders not happen, exposing the fact that they're just reminders, but in the simple cases, at the start of your turn you'll see in front of you all the cards that you need to reconstruct what effects are going on.

Note that having the cards stay in play also lower their power because they will miss the reshuffle more often.  Wharf would be even crazier if you were able to play the same single Wharf every turn. :P
