(You all know how bad I am at updating a title, so let's just leave it generic, methinks)

The Hagia Sophia of Byzantium (B) - Produce Stone

Finally a few notes:

I've shortened the text on some of the cards. Notably things like debt.

Speaking of debt: Anything that says "Cause X debt..." means you interact with the debt mechanic (pay or take debt), not explictly that you take that number of debt tokens. Also any conditional debt is always referring to each other player (e.g. "Cause 1 debt per wonder stage built" means each other player checks their number of wonder stages, it's not based on the person playing the card). Finally, to facilitate fast online play, we're using the following minor houserule for debt:
All debt resolution will be done automatically when the board is updated. This will default to "pay as much as possible," unless a player specifies how to pay potential debt in advance, in which case their orders will be carried out instead (as best as possible). Since you might be paid by your neighbours, I suggest leaving orders in the form "Keep a minimum of X money," but other orders are fine.

I think that's the only really notable thing I need to say in advance.

Suggestion:  delete the A sides of our wonders from the intro post, so it only lists the wonder sides actually in play.

Aw, good point.

I don't really care if people know what I picked. If it's a problem with hyram, I'd rather him also be told my leader names instead of restarting the draft.  I don't want to ruin a game from my actions.

Hmm... well, all things considered, I'm not too fussed about it. I don't think it's too big of a deal, especially considering both are bonus giving leaders, not scoring ones (meaning they're likely to be played early not late, and there's not really much you can do with the extra knowledge.

To save time, I suggest you also pick your first leader after finish drafting your hand (remember you may discard for 3 coins or build a wonder stage when you play a leader). Everyone does have their final two to pick from.

I suggest checking for errors while I set up for age II.
I spotted one!

I should have 5 coins, not 4. 2 coins from Voltgloss should bring me from 4 to 6, but I should receive an additional coin from Berenice. Which brings me to 7, then -2 for Hatshepsut.

Agreed. I'm pretty bad at remembering to enact leader effects, I strongly advise you notify me when a leader does a thing.

Congratulations to Volt on the win! Thanks to his impressive science sets he managed to get a rather dominating position by the endgame - three science sets tends to have that effect. I think everyone did pretty well overall, but Volt just did better. And only one card discarded for coins and in the final round, that's pretty surprising.

Good game and congratulations to Voltgloss.

I think that my biggest mistake was undervaluing the resources produced by the grey cards.  I didn't realize just how many late age cards require them.

hyram, in your position, I would have taken Manneken Pis A once it my and Arch's Wonders were revealed.

Two reasons:

- the extra shield from the B side is less useful in a game where at least one, and maybe both, of your opponents will have guaranteed access to Diplomacy.

- When facing the Great Wall, Manneken Pis A gets to choose which of the Wall's wonder stages it can copy.  That flexibility can be of terrific help.

In other news, I was lucky to see two Mask cards in the mix (even if I didn't get one) in a game where I was planning a Science-heavy strategy.  The Magistrates Guild was also an obviously lucky boon for me, although I didn't ultimately need it. 

I think it's also important not to overlook the importance of having access to at least three of each raw material (wood, stone, ore, brick) going into the third age.  By "access" I mean "could build a card requiring three of something, even with buying from opponents."  Many Guilds require that, as do some regular cards.  Not having access to three Wood stopped hyram from building the Shipowners Guild - and my having that access (through the Caravansery) let me build the Magistrates Guild.  I toyed with the notion of forgoing the Caravansery and taking the risk of not being able to build those cards - glad in the end that I didn't.

Arch, what Leaders did you have available during the draft?  Hatsepshut/Berenice is definitely a strong combo, but what you needed in the end there was some high-VP Leader card instead of Hammurabi.

Also, if neither of you guys had built the Press in Age II, I absolutely would have buried it to stop one of you from building your wonder.  Setting myself up for that is why I buried the Press in Age I.  ;D

Gotta ask Arche -- in Age II, why did you build red, then your Diplomacy wonder, then a second red?
I really terrible mistake. I thought Diplomacy prevented me from receiving defeat tokens, not taking me out of the battle altogether. Luckily Tables corrected me, so I was able to adjust my strategy.  But it was a little too late.

Yeah, I considered taking one of those 5$ Leaders at one point over Hammurabi (or was it Xenophon? I forget) but I didn't think I'd have enough coins. Turns out I had too many! Really underestimated the power of those two leaders.

(Yeah it's fine by me. I've also added the promo stuff to the master sheet, should we choose to use it).


Oh there's something I did never tell you guys. When distributing 3 wonders each, I rigged it so you each got one base wonder, one expansion wonder and one pure random. As it turns out you all got two expansion ones each IIRC, and asides from who got what, it was still the same wonders as you'd have gotten had I not rigged it. I figured it'd make things a little more interesting, as you could guaranteed you'd definitely have one familiar choice, one shiny new choice at minimum.

Okay. Well I hope you enjoyed the game!

How about I open up a new signups thread for 7W7, and possibly we'll go to 4 or 5 players (if we can get that many)? The game scales very well, but plays slightly differently at each player count, so it'd be nice to see some different numbers to get that effect I think.
