Juggling

Does anyone on here juggle?

I learned to juggle when I was really young, but I never really practiced it enough to learn really advanced tricks or juggle high numbers or anything.  It's more of a recreational thing for me.  I thought there might be other people on here who like to juggle.  You know, you walk around your place of residence and just start throwing and catching random things because you can and it's fun... Dropping and breaking things and annoying all the people you reside with... Maybe that's just me...

Anyways, I can juggle 4 balls, but not for super long.  I'm much more comfortable with 3.  I learned 3 ball mill's-mess (one of my few forays into the realm of tricks) in the past year, and it took a while...  I learned how to juggle clubs by using my dad's screwdrivers, because clubs are expensive and he has some pretty big screwdrivers.  It was scary, and difficult because all three were different lengths, but that's how I learned.  I now have clubs and those are fun, but I'm finding tricks even more difficult.

Anyone else have any juggling experience?

I'm at about the same point as you are. I can go until I get bored with 3 balls, can do 4 for a little while. I can juggle 5 for five catches about half of the time I try. that is, throw all five up one at a time and then catch them all. I've never been able to throw them up again with 5. I've never tried clubs. In terms of tricks, I can do a lot of tricks with three: mill's mess, shower, around-the-back, under the leg, stuff like that. my favorite is to throw all three around the back at the same time, catch two, throw one, catch the third, and start juggling. I have not practiced juggling in a while though.....

I can do like 2 cycles with 3 balls.  And then they fall down.

How long would it take someone not particularly talented to learn to juggle three balls from the scratch? I'm assuming balls would be the easiest.

I bet you could "flash" 3 in like 15 minutes (1 cycle, like what liopoil can do with 5).  And maybe get a good pattern in an afternoon.  Three isn't really that bad, once you understand the pattern (depending on your coordination)

Only if you can subsequently catch it...

Contact juggling does not require catching. ;)

I can juggle 3 balls, or any other relatively evenly shaped object, for as long as I want. The objects generally don't need to be same size/mass either (Baseball/Soccerball/Rubber bouncyball, for instance).

However, I've never gotten the hang of 4, and clubs have always eluded me (although I've never given them much chance, as the extra flipping just seemed intimidating).

At a holiday club I was recently involved in running, one of the other leaders juggled 7 balls in front of about 400 kids. I was pretty impressed, even if he only managed it for about 5 seconds.

I've tried juggling in the past, but it's never been something I've had the motivation to properly learn, and still don't, so never actually got anywhere with it.

But not strictly better, because the spinoff can have a different cost than the expansion.

I taught myself in an afternoon with 2 balls (with one hand) and then introduced the third ball the next day.

My favorite way to juggle nowadays is with bouncy balls and bouncing them off the pavement as I walk. Sometimes a ball hits an errant pebble, but mostly it is very similar to juggling in the air.

Actually, come to think of it, I'll juggle one ball with one hand sometimes.

Sometimes I'll reverse-juggle.  Instead of just me juggling a bunch of objects, a group of us get together in a group and juggle a single ball.  Sometimes we split into teams for some competitive juggling.

I've been juggling for about 7 years now, and can juggle up to 6 balls (say 75 catches record) and 5 clubs (maybe 30 catches).  I've qualified 7 balls twice (14 catches)  I travel to 2-3 juggling festivals every year (typically in Madison and Minneapolis).  My favorite part of juggling is club passing, which is what I spend most of my juggling time doing these days.

I juggle 3 balls sometimes, and can do the tricks liopoil mentioned except for shower.
It's strange: Mill's Mess? Easy for me, impossible for my friends.
Shower? Impossible for me, easy for my friends.
I also like passing a lot, but I don't really have a partner to practice with regularly.

Edit: Also, Windmill is the most fun thing to do ever.

I've never really been able to try passing...  I don't have a partner to practice with, let alone with clubs.  It does sound fun though.

I was able to see this guy live in vegas for free.  It was amazing.

When I cook, I'll juggle ingredients like onions or apples. I sometimes regret liking eggs.

Well, if it's a Canadian/American football, it's probably rather unpredictable.

In my experience, this depends mostly on how good you are at throwing balls where you want them to go. In my case, I was really bad at ball throwing and catching, so it took me roughly a month of roughly 10-20 minutes practice every 1-2 days until I could qualify a 3 ball cascade. (That means every ball must be rethrown at least once and the re-throw must be caught.) It took me about 4 months after that to be doing 50+ catches of cascade with reasonable reliability. But if you're already good at throwing and catching, you may be able to learn it in a day. So it's very person-dependent.
