GokoDom II: Round 1 Results *ONLY*

Click Here for the Tournament Spreadsheet

GokoDom II is here!  Round 1 starts today.

How to Play Your Match

1. Go to the spreadsheet and find your name.  Your opponent for this round is right next to your name.  PM that person and work out an agreeable time to play, and choose a room to meet in--I suggest something unlikely to be crowded. Match Results are due no later than Monday 19 August 2013 at 1200 GMT -- 0800 EDT -- 0500 PDT.

2. The player with the most sets will host each game using random cards in Unrated mode.  That player should also take responsibility for saving game logs.

3. The first player for the first game will be decided randomly by Goko.

4. The first player changes as noted in the rules thread, in the order A-B-B-A-A-B.  This may require you to resign/restart a game.  In Unrated mode, it doesn't matter who resigns.

6. Play a minimum of three games, and a maximum of six games, based on the next section.

How to Score Your Match

1. If a player has scored 3 match points within 4 games, that player wins the match.

2. If a player has scored 3.5 match points within 6 games, that player wins the match.

3. If both players have 3 match points after 6 games, the match is a draw.

How to Post Your Match

In this thread, make a post that includes links to your game logs, the final score, and the winner and loser of the match.

You must post your results by the deadline listed above.

What If We Can't Figure Out a Time?

There are two situations here:

If you have sent a PM to your opponent, but they have not responded to two separate PMs, send me a PM.  If they do not respond, you will be awarded a win by default.
If both players are in contact but are unable to find a mutually agreeable time, both players should send me PMs; both players will receive a draw by default.

Please keep this thread CLEAR OF DISCUSSION.  Due to the number of players (83) I'd like to keep results in one place.  The discussion thread is over here; please post your match results there as well and discuss there!

This may be posted somewhere else, but what exactly is a "match point"? Do you get one for each win? I'm guessing so, but I think this should be explicit on this thread.

1 match point for a game win, .5 match points for a game tie (shared victory if you want to use the rulebook phrase).

I would have called this 'game points' but meh.

Now that i know what it means, and can see it is useful, I will proudly announce-

I really really wanted to put the marquee tag, but I'm too afraid of Kirian's Wrath

Bottom right corner, next to the "Reply" button is a button that says "Notify". With my E-mail settings they way they are, I can get an E-mail every time there's a new post in that thread (once since I've read it last). Does not require posting in the thread. I will now use the "unnotify" button immediately after posting this so I don't have to get E-mails from all of you calling me a hypocrite for posting here to say this.

Loppo 3-1 Bekse

Game 1 Loppo 0-1 Bekse
Game 2 Loppo 1-1 Bekse
Game 3 Loppo 2-1 Bekse
Game 4 Loppo 3-1 Bekse

Bekse is a new dutch player. He is most familar with base+Intrigue, so we played half the games this way, and the other half full sets random. So if you spot him give him a helping hand. Another Dutch champion on his way up.

Lotoreo 4: Jdaki: 2
Thanks for the games Lotoreo, and I'm still amazed to have seen the elusive Walled Village again!
Game logs:
1 http://dom.retrobox.eu/?/20130813/log.507c2cbf0cf28ed55d9d7eee.1376407540011.txt

Lotoreo wins easily 45:12, I underestimate Apothecary as usual and stall on a terrible village-bridge engine with hardly any draw.

http://dom.retrobox.eu/?/20130813/log.507c2cbf0cf28ed55d9d7eee.1376408224573.txt

After half a dozen restarts to get me to first player its a startingly fast game despite familiar which I win on 3 pile 1: -2

3 http://dom.retrobox.eu/?/20130813/log.507c2cbf0cf28ed55d9d7eee.1376408927465.txt

A much more long winded game with Witch and the aforementioned Walled vilalge which I end up buying a couple despite myself. A moderately focused BM approach wins it for me in the end 34: 24

4 http://dom.retrobox.eu/?/20130813/log.507c2cbf0cf28ed55d9d7eee.1376409553381.txt

Not a lot going on in this Kingdom I don't think, but Lotoreo finds the optimum combination and hits it first time with his Haggler just giving him many more stables than me and despite some half hearted duchy dancing I get crushed and resign at 45:29

5 http://dom.retrobox.eu/?/20130813/log.507c2cbf0cf28ed55d9d7eee.1376410091012.txt

All important at 2:2, this appears to me at first a fairly quiet board without any big engine. I go JoaT he goes for treasuries and trashes using counterfeit. Eventually he gets down to basically only treasuries and is much more reliable than me as we head into greening. he breaks ppr but my luck is crap and I lose 30:21
This game is notable because half way through the game as I start to see how effective he is vs me, I realise there was Trader and Feodum and I kick myself hard.

6 http://dom.retrobox.eu/?/20130813/log.507c2cbf0cf28ed55d9d7eee.1376410900282.txt

The last chance for me and fairly desperate I somehow read Workers village as a combination of walled village and mining village and convince myself there is no +buy on the board and commit to a simple Vault -BM and use my 1st player advantage. As it turns out Lotoreo develops a lovely engine but doesn't need the +buy anyway and upgrades his way to provinces via Bank. I don't quite get the draws necessary- the single marauder played against me manages to slow me enough- I did not think it could slow me so much so that I only get 4 provinces in 16 turns and I lose 28:27

Once again well played Lotoreo.

Nice match. I was happy to chat with zaubererer after the game. He's Greek, and was puzzled by my nickname, which means "fuck you" in Greek (something I wasn't aware of when choosing the nickname).

Eevee 3.5 - Archetype 1.5

http://dom.retrobox.eu/?/20130817/log.5158def5e4b0ee7f08a599e4.1376757257165.txt
Archetype opens 5-2 on a rebuild board and goes on to destroy me.

http://dom.retrobox.eu/?/20130817/log.5158def5e4b0ee7f08a599e4.1376757862585.txt
Soothsayer is the key card here. I play more of a money based strategy, and win pretty comfortably. I think Archetype's mistake was buying a soothsayer too late.

An interesting one with young witch, menagerie as a bane and fool's gold. I fall badly behind but my engine kicks in in time and I'm able to steal a draw.

A board made for a horn of plenty megaturn. Archetype goes for HP+steward, I clear the provinces on turn 12.

I buy knights whenever I can, get really lucky and snowball. This must have been pretty frustrating for Archetype.

Good games, it was definitely fun to play "competitive" dominion again.

Commentary coming up later today - suffice to say, I had better luck through most of these games. Once again, thanks to Robz888 for being friendly and a good sport, and best of luck for the following rounds.
