In Australia, college is high school.  So confusing.

yeah, same way in Canada (at least parts of it). You have to make sure to say "university" otherwise people will look down on you...

Occasionally. I think that's the case here in Canberra, but in Sydney where I grew up the only colleges I knew of were student halls within universities (something between a dorm and a fraternity, I think).

I'm in Sydney now, and there's definitely colleges that are high schools.  Maybe they're just the private schools?

I just did a search for schools in NSW called a college, and going very quickly through them it looks like a lot of them are existing High Schools that have banded together into "collegiates", or are closely associated with tertiary institutions. I suspect many of these are fairly recent developments, too, which would be why I'm not familiar with them.

Makes sense.  I was thinking of Brigidine College and Moriah College as two quick examples.

In the UK, secondary school is 5 years after which you used to be allowed to leave, followed by two years of "sixth form".  A sixth form not attached to a school is a college.  They will typically, but not exclusively, have more of a vocational focus.

A college can also be one of the 20+ institutions making up the Universities of Oxford or Cambridge, or the name of a faculty/department ("College of Physical Sciences").

Yesterday I ran a mile. So I'm sure that sounds just silly to all those people who run marathons and all that, but I haven't been able to run a mile non-stop since 8th grade.

Nice!  It's the first mile that's the hardest.  As someone who makes running a regular part of my life the hardest thing about running is not actually the running.  It's getting out to do the running.  Keep it up Gendo!

Thanks! Just finished another. I agree, actually making myself do it seems to be the hardest part. I'm running indoors, on a treadmill, which is a bit easier.

That will get you into some good schools. You going to follow in the footsteps of your grandfather or your great grandfather? Or create your own way?

According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ACT_(test), it's an entry to college (university) test, and the top score is 36, and the average score is about 20.

Is that the UK one? 6 questions, 7 points each, answering two questions well is really good? If so, well done, that's probably, what, two completely answered questions and partial credit for one?

But not strictly better, because the spinoff can have a different cost than the expansion.

USA actually but I think that they are about the same difficulty. I think I got 7 points for #5, 5 points for #4, and 4 points for #2.

Edit: Oh I bet you thought I was British because I said maths. I only do that to stop Ozle from yelling at me.

I finished my first marathon today! (Cleveland's). 3:55:06 was the time, which I'm fairly pleased with.

I'm hurting pretty bad right now, and stairs are a particular nemesis.

Is it bad that the first thought which came to my mind was "what (movie) series?" until I realized you ran an actual marathon?

Good job, btw!
