This isn't really Goko's fault; the custom avatars are part of the extension. With the Chrome or Safari versions linked in my signature (or the latest Version for Firefox on my GitHub), you can blacklist players so you don't need see then in the lobbies or games they're part of.

Well, okay. But, I'm just going to guess here, Goko is going to get annoyed if your extension lets people make pornographic images as their profiles. Even if there is some extension method of solving it.

Or do only the people with the extension see custom images at all?

Again, I am a toddler with respect to these tech questions.

(Also, I am not offended by the images--I just expect other people to be, and for Goko to sensibly not want that.)

I am confused. I am pretty sure everyone with the extension can see it. I don't know if everyone everyone can see it. Either way, I doubt Goko will like it, and I don't blame them. Am I way off base here?

Of course you need the extension to view it.  Someone else's Greasemonkey script can't overwrite Goko's graphics and force them to display on my computer, Greasemonkey is LOCAL TO YOUR MACHINE.  If you don't choose to install the extension to read other people's custom avatars, you can't possibly see them.  It isn't actually changing anything about the Goko program.

The extension uploads your custom image to that site, and reads other people's image.  This has nothing to do with Goko.

But seriously, how does this avatar thing can work at all?  I have not looked at the code of neither the extensions nor goko, but...
First, standard goko.  You are loading goko.com.  This website tells your browser to look for an image at a specific place also at goko.com.   There is no way for someone not working at goko to change the images that are  stored at this place.*
What can the extension do? It changes your browser.  When goko wants to tell your browser to look for avatar images at goko.com, the extension tells your browser to not listen and to look for the images somewhere else.  That's where the custom avatars are stored.

* Of course, excluding hacking their website.  But if you could do this, the sensible way is not to use it to let other people upload custom avatars, but to insert some code that steals credit card information of the users.

People may install the extension, be bothered, not realize it's the extension allowing it and not Goko itself, and complain directly to Goko. If Goko feels it's giving them a bad image, then they would care.

They don't have to allow custom avatars. Literally anything but the knights would be preferable. I mean, it's a totally minor issue that they probably shouldn't spend time on in the grand scheme of things, but I still hate them.

There are far worse usernames floating around than the avatar you describe and Goko seems okay with it.

I would dispute the use of the word "pornography" here, especially to non-Americans; the picture being used is no worse than what one would find in a PG-13 movie or on Page 3 of the Sun (or similar pages in most European and S. American newspapers).

That said, a warning at the download page of "Use this at your own risk, some people abuse the pictures and here's how to blacklist them" would be in order.  Is there anywhere to download these other than from the page on this website?

Note:  Vermilion (forum name)/BTard (Goko name) is still a jerk for doing this and using his standard game name.

This doesn't really seem like it has to do with Goko at all.  It's not even like they have any control over it.  I would just suggest that the extension author makes clear that people could be using inappropriate images as their avatars.

It would be like if you guys all agreed to use Google Glass, and then all installed a certain app that replaced all the pictures in NYTimes with any random image selected by other users, and then complained to the NYT about it.
