Possession/Island Strategy

So we all know that Masquerade and Ambassador are dangerous to have when you're being Possessed.  But what about Island, the other pseudo-trasher?  If your opponent had a hand of three Estates, Island and a Platinum, would you Island their Platinum away, or buy something costing $5?

The problem is, people usually Island things away early.

I'd rather they lost a $9 card than I gained a $5, in general, especially when it also means they can't use that Island themselves later.

Of course, depends on the board and how late into the game we are.

...spin-offs are still better for all of the previously cited reasons.
But not strictly better, because the spinoff can have a different cost than the expansion.

Obviously it depends on the situation.  Do you really want a $5?  How vital is that Plat to their deck?  How much will removing their Island help them?

By the point I'm Possessing someone with a Plat, getting rid of their Plat is probably the best call.

Islanding away the Platinum is probably the best strategy, because it often results in an instant win (when the opponent resigns).

Island with Possession is annoying, but not as game-breaking as Masq or Amb. First of all, if you get a chance to play the island, you'll just geet it out of your own deck. Second, they don't get the card they island away, AND if they island away a good card, its' likely they miss out on a chance to have a good turn with your hand.

Well, if they Island away your only Goons, they would have harmed themselves by playing it.

this. I always try to have at least as many if not more turns with my opponents hand than I do with my own, so I want their hand to be nice and juicy.

I'd approve of BoM as an Island :D
