Attack idea: you buy, others gain

(can anyone give me an idea for a name for this?)

v.3
Action-Attack $5
+1 buy
+$2
The first time you buy a card this turn, choose one: either you gain it, or all other players do.

v2. Action-Attack $5
+$2
The first time you buy a card this turn, choose one: either you gain it, or all other players do.

v1:
Action-Attack $5
+1 buy

When you buy a card this turn, you may return it to the supply. If you do, each other player gains a copy of it.

What do you think? Basically, you can choose a card to give to your opponent. So if you buy a Curse, you can choose whether to gain it, or your opponent gains it (probably your opponent). Likewise, if you buy a Province, you can choose to gain it, or let all opponents gain it (I'd say you'd gain it

Get it? So this will probably be used to give out curses, then when they run out, they give out coppers. (For scout-haters: this card is flexible enough to give Scouts to other players!)

I'm just afraid that it would be too overpowered with the +buy. Maybe I should give some other vanilla bonuses to the card, maybe +$2?

Feel free to say anything good or bad about this card ;)

Edit 1: changed +buy to +$2, changed wording
Edit 2: Whoops, now its too underpowered. Added the +1 buy back

A small nitpick: when you buy a card, you can't return it to the supply because you didn't gain it yet. You buy, then on-buy triggers, then you gain, then on-gain triggers. You could say "During your buy phase, when you gain a card", that would combo with Haggler and Border Village in a way you didn't intend, though maybe it would be more fun.

Amusingly, this is very similar to Sea Haggler from the Really bad card ideas thread.

I'd probably add some sort of restriction like once per turn. With extra buys, this will be used to hand out a heck of a lot of Curses and Coppers.

Yes, the problem with Sea Haggler is that Market Square is now a $3 Familiar. If you can give out Coppers too, then it's even stronger.

Also, if it's an attack card, that suggests you can Moat it, but Moat blocks the effects of an attack when you play it, this has effects while it is in play. There will be arguments, for sure.

I play this card.  Someone else reveals Moat.  Now, they aren't affected by the attack, so if I buy a card later they won't get anything.

Well, hang on. Market Square is a $3 Familiar if you draw it with Sea Haggler, which doesn't happen automatically. And Sea Haggler is a $5 card. You could just as well say that Sea Haggler is a $5 Witch per Market Square you draw it with.

This argument was done to death in the Sea Haggler thread already!

The fact that it's arguable is my point. That's a problem with the card, you can't figure out what it does and how it interacts with other cards just by reading it.

If Market Square isn't spammable enough for you, Squire can now give two Curses.

If you like up Squire, Sea Haggler, and a village!

...Which means you might want to hold off on getting a Sea Haggler till you've got a reliable engine? Hm.

Squire IS a village, and easy to spam.

Squire IS a village, and easy to spam.

So you still have to get two Squires and a Sea Haggler in the same hand. Wouldn't two Hamlets be easier for the same price and more flexibility?

Hamlets also fit the bill perfectly - for +buys, that is, and the extra cycling helps. I don't know what you mean that they are more flexible. Squires have the advantage that you don't need to hit $5 to get your Sea Haggler.

If your hand is Squire, Squire, Sea Haggler, X, Y, then you get your +2 buys and play Sea Haggler and end up with XY in your hand. If your hand is Hamlet, Hamlet, Sea Haggler, X, Y, then you get your +2 buys and play Sea Haggler and end up with the two best cards out of XYZW in your hand, or the single best card and another +Action.

OK. Still, Hamlets don't help you to buy or gain Sea Haggler, though they do help you to play more of them.

There are lots of ways to get those +1 buys, and most of them would be ridiculous if that part was replaced with "each other player gains a Curse".

Both; they had essentially the same mechanic (use extra buys to give out curses). I see that you've changed your card, that looks better, but really it's just a more complicated way of saying "Choose one: +1 buy, each other player gains a Curse, or each other player gains a Copper".
