Needed card titles

Since we already have Pawn, Knight, Bishop, and King('s Court), we need a Queen and a Castle.

The nobility has King, Princess, Duke/Duchess, Count, Margrave (equivalent to Marquis), Baron, Knights, and generic Nobles, so all we need is a Lord (to govern a Feodum) and possibly an Emperor.

Craftsmen don't have an order, but we have a Woodcutter, Coppersmith, Ironworks, Forge, Armory, and Ironmonger.  We still need a Mason and either a Goldsmith or a Jeweler, and we're a bit heavy on ironmongery.

Thanks primarily to Prosperity, the monetary trades are already covered.  We have a Counting House, a Mint, a Bank with a Moneylender to issue a Loan, a Venture for your investments, and a Trading Post with a Trader to change your money.  I don't see anything missing.

I don't think we'll see a 'Castle' card because of how the majority of the cards in the Base set are parts of a castle, and it would make the game make even less sense thematically.

What I think we'll see a lot more of are the Craftsman type cards, to go along with the Guilds theme and possibly more Banking cards like in the last section to go along with the Saved Coin mechanic.

You missed Jester, which we also have and fits one of your themes, at least.

I'd love a card named Rook.

I think Arch is right in that we'll have more occupational cards, and especially something with mason in it (or Bricklayer?).  We need someone who is doing the remodeling/rebuilding.

Every self-respecting court needs a Seneschal, of course. I don't see how we've gotten along without one for this long.

I think the Craftsmen are in need of a Leatherworker or Tannery, and perhaps a Tailor.

Agriculture is currently pretty undifferentiated, compared to the Craftsmen. We have Farmland... I think that pretty much covers everything on its own, although we have Vineyard and Gardens in addition. There might be room for something specific to Livestock, and like a Barn maybe.

Our wretched hive of scum and villainy currently has Thieves, Cutpurses, Spies, Goons, Marauders, Swindlers, Saboteurs, Counterfeiters, and Robin Hood himself. We're missing miscreants related to treachery, like Traitor, Turncoat, Bribery, Blackmail, or Informer.

Our stable of magic uses includes three types of Witches, Golem, Oracle, Mystic, Familiar, and Apprentice. Male magic-users such as Wizard and Sorcerer are under-represented, as are court-aligned roles like Court Magician and Auspex or Augur.

NEED MOAR CHESS PUNS!

Nick and I have talked about playing a chess-themed kingdom with those four cards. We though about using Fortress for Rook (Bishop+Fortress/Rook would be sort of a combo in both games) but couldn't come up with much for Queen.

A Marshall might be appropriate for keeping your Militias in order (reveal cards until reveal an Attack?).

Siege Engines are conspicuously absent.

I'd love a card named Rook.

Sounds like a thematic cursegiver. I guess we have rooks (or near enough) on Curses and Ill-Gotten Gains.

We're missing miscreants related to treachery, like Traitor, Turncoat, Bribery, Blackmail, or Informer.

Conspirator?

I'm surprise we have no Executioner yet (snif, I just remembered Isotropic's Torturer picture, which is another evil-doer missing from the list). Also, law-enforcement seems misrepresented. No Guards in the castle?

Pawns and Knights fit that in one way or another.

Contextually, they are the same in this instance. I'm using gender to refer to biological sex, not feminine/masculine traits.

Actually, it was based on the gender of some words (specifically Wizard and Sorcerer) which is related to the social perception of gender and has nothing to do with biology. People identified as femenine would undoubtedly prefer to be referred to as "Sorceress" even if their genitalia is traditionally associated with males.

Anyway, we are digressing hard, I just like to be the "political correctness nazi" because I don't know enough grammar.

God, I wish I could unsubscribe from just this thread.

There's the UNNOTIFY button in the bottom right corner for that...

I'm interested to see the name of the victory card in Guilds. It seems like DXV was running out of ideas for names of lands when he used Feodum (just stealing one from another language).

I dunno, "feodum" goes all the way back to basic Dominion: "In all directions lie fiefs, freeholds, and feodums."

Parish might make the most sense, as frequently that was the area of control for a guild.

Neither fief nor freehold has been used yet, so are still viable options.

Monterey Jack of All Trades

This is the best thing ever.

If you've ever played Amun Re, the icons that represent the cards look like cheese wedges to me so that's what I call them. You've even substituted a card for a cheese wedge.

Everybody thinks I'm crazy because I call them cheese wedges. I also call the treasure chests in Strozzi Sponges. Nobody understands me, but maybe you do, eHalcyon!

I want a Dragon, though I guess that will have to wait for the Dominion: Fantasy expansion coming out next spring.

There was a good dragon card in a Fairy Tale fan made expansion that was posted on BGG.... it was something like "-3 VP, at the end of the game you may trash 8 treasure cards, if you do the dragon is worth +5VP".

I haven't actually played it but it sounded like a nice idea.... I suppose in practice it may just lead to dull games where everyone is loading up on coppers....

I have also heard them called wedges, particularly when they aren't being used for draw, "+3 VPs for seven wedges."  That's also what we call the tokens in Trivial Pursuit.

If you've ever played Amun Re, the icons that represent the cards look like cheese wedges to me so that's what I call them.

I have also heard them called wedges, particularly when they aren't being used for draw, "+3 VPs for seven wedges."  That's also what we call the tokens in Trivial Pursuit.

Funny. We use the german expression Käseecken (which means cheese wedges) for Trivial Pursuit tokens, too. Cheese is international.

Ecken is wedges? I would have guessed corners (from my rusty High School German, which is to say, ignorance). Man, I wish I knew German better.

"Ecken" translates to "corners" right. And "wedges" means "Keile" but still there are called "Käseecken" in German. Don't ask me why.

It's a real pity. Otherwise you could traslate "tasty cheese wedges" to "geile Käse-keile", and that would sound soooo good, much better than leckere Käse-ecken.

And from this list, all we got was the Stonemason, and a lot of additional craftstmen so that ironmongery no longer dominates.  We also have a Taxman to add to the monetary trades, which I should have suggested in the original post.  The Queen and Castle will need to wait for the next expansion, and I would also still like a Jeweler.

You know that Guilds is the last planned expansion, right?  Though maybe your statement is one of optimism.

Guilds wasn't even planned in the first place.  I would welcome more expansions, but there is a case to be made for dilution - the larger the card pool, the less you'll see the specific mechanics introduced by each set.  You would literally have to make the next expansion a treasure chest one to ensure eveness in that regard.

Nah, just keep adding "not in the supply" cards until Goko needs 3 screens.

"Always two there are. No more, no less. A Master and an Apprentice."

Still waiting for the Master.

We got the masterpiece. Close enough

I want a Dragon, though I guess that will have to wait for the Dominion: Fantasy expansion coming out next spring.

Hey, that's what I called my fan expansion! And i had a dragon!

Dragon
Action $4
Trash up to two cards from your hand.
Gain a card that is not a victory card. Each other player gains a copy of the same card.

And a dragon's hoard:

Dragon's hoard
Action $5
+$1
--
If this is the only action card in play at the start of your buy phase, +$2, +1 Buy.

Neither are playtested very much, but whatevs.

And just as among the Sith, the best strategy is for the Apprentice to slay the Master(piece) before too long.
