Plenty of games use card orientation to indicate some piece of game state anyway. We're not indicating whether a card has been "tapped" or some synonym of that so I don't even see how this could possibly be relevant.

Anyway I'm not saying they should include this method in the rulebook, just that this is a thing I do that works for me and maybe it will work for other people too. If you can keep a mental tally of coins and buys that's better because it will make your turns move faster and will keep everyone else at the table from hating you.
