If you are innocent, everyone else in the game is part of a conspiracy against you and they all know that. I think it will be very interesting to see if you can guess. Baisically its a game of paranoia for the innocent, is everyone else in it against you or is everyone as clueless as you.

But there's no way you can work anything out. It comes down to a 50/50 gamble at the end.

I think what I'm trying to ask is, what actually happens in the game? As far as I can see it, we all just wait around until the end, maybe occasionally saying something paranoid but meaningless, and then just make a guess at the end.

And of course, as with Mafia, scum don't usually talk, so that can help you figure out the game.

all the time I'm seeing this thread title, and the words 'social' and 'deduction' combine in my mind and I read 'seduction' instead.

Close to the real etymology, but not quite.  The word "seduction" is in fact a portmanteau of "social reduction".  After all, seduction is the art of deviously reducing another's social options until what seems to be best for them is what you wanted all along!

None of this is true.

So when do you guys want this to get going on Monday? What should the time period be.

I'll do this eHalc style:

0. Archetype (3 PM- 1 AM)
1. Tables
2. mcmcsalot
3. eHalcyon
4. Eevee
5. Ozle
6. TINAS
7. jotheonah
Quote the list above and add the time period (say 8 pm to 10 pm) that you would be able to play the game during. Then you can add a comment about how long you think the talking period should be. Once everyone has inputted, I'll start writing up the PMs as well as getting an official rule set typed out.

Actually Monday, specifically, is terrible for me. I'm at a conference for work all day and at an alumni event for my college all night.

Oh, are we not doing it on the forum for like a day or two? Is there a specific reason that won't work? I should be able to do any day though.

...spin-offs are still better for all of the previously cited reasons.
But not strictly better, because the spinoff can have a different cost than the expansion.
