It happens.  It's probably not the worst lucksack possible in the game, though.  Playing a weak opening against Domestication/Clothing, and failing to draw any colors to block Monumental Clothing, and insta losing, strikes me as sadder because you didn't have any chance at all to avoid it.

I think I need to say sorry to this person, too (quite old log)

I did notice that Metalworking was shared in that game. I generally consider that too much of a risk (I have gotten Monument from sharing my opponents dogma before). Other than that it just looks like a Fermentation/Reformation draw and tuck engine.

I didn't save the log or a screenshot, but I just had a game where I was threatening to win once I melded a 6, after scoring a bunch with Coal.  There were still a bunch of Age 5 cards left to draw and my opponent had a decent tech and icon lead as I had been scoring most of my board.  He jumps up even further in tech and ends his turn having drawn a 10, Bioengineering, which would win the game for him if he could get it down.

I looked at the Archery in my hand, checked the Castle balance, then melded and activated Archery to steal his Bioengineering.

(We played a rematch and I crushed him with a Reformation/Fermenting engine, for which I'm also sorry, but that kind of thing happens all the time).

What's even nastier about the game in the screenshot is that he didn't intend to activate Software - he activated Computers and was forced to meld and activate the Software.  That's even more worthy of that bad-luck-kid (I don't know his "official" name) meme.

So Innovation teaches us that it's dangerous to meddle with computers, because we risk Skynet when all humans lose, but the one with the lowest score loses the least, so is the winner, sort of?

If we ever make a version of Council Room for Innovation, I think it'd have to be named Metalworking Monument

Industrialization is a trap. Anytime I or my opponents have spammed it more than twice they've lost. I won my last game because my opponent spammed it until the 9s were low, then I STOLE it from him and forcibly shared it (I only had 2 [factory] icons) to make him run out the 10s thru even more tucking to make a score win for me.

Well, if you get industrialization and have a healthy score lead, the game is basically over.  Especially if you can share it.  I think it's a pretty annoying card.

Sorry metathuhlu, this game went, um, rather well.  I'm still getting this figured out but winning on achievements on turn 8 is pretty good, right?

(And yeah, it turns out Metalworking scoring 9 cards on turn 2 is pretty broken.)

I'm sorry for managing to spend the whole game melding blue cards, then getting genetics to score them all and give you no hope http://innovation.isotropic.org/gamelog/201304/01/game-20130401-111346-26974496.html

This game got out of hand quickly, and my misplay of clothing still ended up alright.
Another funny thing with clothing: Scored six cards, but had already gotten monument from masonry.

He got unlucky earlier in the game and then this. This has got to be the most painful way to lose an Innovation game: you can't draw, or you lose the game; you can't activate a dogma, or you will share, and draw a card as a bonus from the sharing, and lose the game; the only thing to do is to meaninglessly meld your cards, but the game just doesn't end.

You should have activated Banking meaninglessly twice on two turns to force him to lose the game when he draws.

...spin-offs are still better for all of the previously cited reasons.
But not strictly better, because the spinoff can have a different cost than the expansion.
