We went through two reshuffles with an essentially tied score and neither of us able to buy the last province. Masquerade was great, but, in the end, it just wasn't enough. Fun game though.

31 turns. I've seen longer. I think Eevee posted one with 35.

Masq is not really good past a certain point, especially when you are forced to prolong the game. I think in general, on a Masq-BM board, you should look to transition into a stronger BM strategy. Here Embassy would have served well.

Provided you weeded out your deck with Masquerade and you haven't started greening yet, Masquerade is about on par with Embassy. Do you mean that one should pick up Embassy when starting to green?

Technically yes, but you'd want to pick it up before greening because it will be too late if you do it afterwards.

Masquerade does not usually get rid of all Estates, so it's not quite correct to say that Embassy and Masquerade will do the same thing. With Masquerade it's still more difficult to hit $8, the cycling is not as robust, and the passing means that one of the 6 cards in your hand is not reliable. Once you start greening, it's not unlikely to draw a hand with Masquerade with cards that you don't want to pass, though this is not as bad for a money deck.

I played my longest game last Saturday.

A month ago Rabid was the only player with both a substantial amount of games and a serious lead against me. But with a couple of recent good streaks against him, I managed to level it to 67-67.
And then this game. Oh joy :)

It's an ambassador-colony board where the only +buy is hidden in Contraband. He played the better opening, but choose the wrong strategy to finish it off. When he got his first Colony on turn 20 I thought I was toast, but by the time he got his 3rd (turn 27) I was thinking 'that actually might be a mistake'. A long road to go though.

I'm proud of my 3-pile prevention plan. I stopped donating curses with a couple of them left, and on turn 35 (Fool's Golds) and turn 39 (Mining villages) I shipped over two cards I actually wanted to keep, just to get the piles back up and grand me those few extra turns needed.

Ambassador, Colony, Contraband, Crossroads, Fool's Gold, Hunting Party, Mandarin, Mining Village, Minion, Platinum, Rabble, and Venture

Yep crazy game :)
A good lesson here, if you are winning the Amb war, just keep up the pressure.
Buying green can make you lose.
After 9000+ games but my biggest weakness is still not wanting to under spend.
Seems such a waste to spend $12 on a $5 card.
You can't see it in the log (Minion) but on Turn 41, I can end it with Amb Fools gold, buy Mining Village.
So I was just 1 turn short of winning!

This applies to all snowballing attacks. I win so many matches because the opponent decides to buy VP instead of continuing to apply pressure.

Agreed.

I don't think this has been my experience, though.
