Hello everyone

Hi everyone,
My name is Ben, and I'm a college student in the United States. I've been on here lurking for awhile, but figured I'd make a post to say hello!

I've been playing dominion for awhile -- I got the base game about 2 years ago, and played it for awhile, but my addiction to the game started when I found dominionstrategy and isotropic about a year ago. I've been lurking the forums for awhile now, but figured it was time to finally post and say hi.

For board games I own Dominion, Seaside, Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride, and 7 wonders, but have been interested in getting into some more intensive gaming lately (unfortunately, finding time and people to play with is difficult...) Just bought Through the Ages but haven't had time to try it out yet.

Apart from board games, I'm a huge follower of the English Premier League, and I have the same interests as any normal American college student :P

You'll never find time just laying around. You have to make it yourself.

Very true! But unfortunately, I can only make time for myself, and not for others. Convincing my roommates to spend 30 minutes on 7 wonders or dominion is one thing, which is why those games get played pretty frequently in my apartment. On the other hand, Through the Ages is a much harder sell...there are very few times where all of us can set aside 4 hours to play a board game, let alone for anything else.

I've been poking around, and I'm very interested in this! I may join the next game of 7 wonders, and I'm also very interested in doing a game of Resistance or Mafia at some point. As for Through the Ages, I think I'd want to try it out in person first, rather than having to learn on the fly in a forum game.

I also play diplomacy on another site (dipbounced.com), but I may join a game of that here, as well.

Thanks for the heads up!

I thought you live in the United States though :P

Young Nick is another D.C. user around here, he is frustrated by D.C.'s lack of statehood.

As an american and spurs fan I of course love Dempsey...but I don't think we should be starting him as much as we have been :(

Not impressed by Dempsey at all to be honest, doesnt really fit into the team structure and a little bit too slow.

i can't really comment as i have only seen one spurs game (their win over liverpool at white hart lane) and i dont think dempsey even played the whole match. but it definitely is a change for him from fulham where he was the focal point of the team. it seems like this year tottenham revolves around bale.

i'm looking forward to this weekend's match. if liverpool can win it could open up a bit of a scramble for the europe spots.

I dont think Spurs revolves around Bale, he has only been playing like a world beater for the last 3 months or so, before that he was 'only' exceptional.

However what he has done is step up when we really needed something and were in a bit of a slump and carry us for a while.

While Bale is pretty important, I don't think they "revolve" around him -- there's many times that he takes shots far away from the box in good attacking positions that could lead to goals for other players if the build-up were to develop more.

I think part of the reason he's been doing so well, too, is because Adebayor's been playing lately. His finishing hasn't been great this year (ok, it's been terrible), but he's superb at creating pockets of spaces for other and dragging the defenders with him to make room for Lennon but especially Bale to run in. Without his movement, Bale + Lennon wouldn't have been able to make their runs vs. Arsenal, while Defoe would have probably try to get himself into a position to receive a pass and not make the room for others. He also doesn't take quite so many shots, so there's a lot left to take for Bale, and he's been superb from distance and making shots very few other players in the world would make.

That said, though, I'm glad we have him, and we've definitely won some games because of him.

Nooooo, Adebyour is a donkey and the sooner we get rid of him the better.
he hardly ever runs, whenever i see a game in person, away from TV cameras, you can see he hardly ever moves, and when he does he look sout of breath after 15 minutes. He doesnt ever track back to help out.

The last game I saw him play well was the first game at Arsenal, and then he got sent off and we lost 5-2

Defoe creates those spaces better, its no surprise that when Defoe came on against Arsenal it turned the tide and all of a sudden we looked the better team. Defoe is a tiny tiny man yet he is always back getting stuck in to help relive the midfield.

We were playing well this season and looking solid, then defoe got injured. Then for the next 3/4 months the only times we won games were because of a bit of Bale magic, look at the goals he has scored, a lot of them are because he has picked the ball up early on and gone past people, won it off the opposition or wonder free kick. During those games we had virtually NO attacking that all.

I will concede that I can't watch any games in person, just on TV, so I don't have any idea as to what Adebayor does when the camera's off him.

I have just seen Defoe take too many shots from poor positions in the game rather than getting his teammates into better positions. Adebayor's holdup play, especially last year, was fantastic, and while his finishing's been terrible this year, I still think he provides spacing and options that Defoe doesn't bring. He also at least brings a threat for headers -- even when he's not finishing them, defenders still have to pay close attention to him in the box, opening up space for others..

Plus, how could I dislike anyone who gave us this gem!

well like i said i have only seen one spurs game this season, so i only know what i see in the highlights and match reports. but my comment about bale was not really a commentary on the team, it was directed at how bale's presence impacts the role of dempsey.

To further illustrate the point I was trying to make.
Defoe comes back, great Team effort by the lads. 3-0 against Inter is nothing to be sniffed at!!
