for 4 players, Colony games CAN be a little better.  If there are major candidates for 3 piling, it's still going to end well before any engines get going.

Plus if somebody gets a lucky platinum a shuffle or 2 before anybody else, they will win.

Had an IRL tournament last weekend that was 4p colonies. It plays definitely better than 4p province games. 2 boards were won by BM, 2 boards were won by engine and one was won by some sort of megaturn that happened with one colony remaining.

I think it's definitely better then 4p Province games. Games tend to take significantly longer though. And your family will be pissed off, if you are going for long turns game after game.

Oh yes, Platinum games can take a VERY long time. Especially with new people.  We played like a 1.5 hour darkages/plat game, and this was without any attacks to slow things down.
