Silver/Warehouse may not have been the best opening, but this:

   ... Kirian draws and reveals a Silver and an Estate, trashing a Silver.
   ... Kirian discards an Estate.
   ... secret tunnel gains the Silver.

is worse than getting your Sea Hag discarded by your opponent's Sea Hag.  But I figured, hey, I'll just grab another Silver and play on...

At no time during the game did I get a chance to play a Silver.

I'm starting to dislike NB for this reason. If P1 buys a silver, and P2 has 4, NB has a 1/3 shot of basically just ending the game. As you said, you are already down on economy, and if silver is the only economy at 3/4, well, you have a good shot at it getting stolen again.

It might be worth playing around, but sometimes you just need the silver...

I think a Chancellor opening here is very strong.  Both as defense to NB, but also as if you can draw it with 3 copper turn 3, you get a Mountebank shuffled in right then.  Plus, with ST and Festival, you shouldn't be too low on actions.
