One thing I notice is, you separate out the Ruins cards. There's no need or reason to do that - you want the pile shuffled thoroughly every time you play.

...spin-offs are still better for all of the previously cited reasons.
But not strictly better, because the spinoff can have a different cost than the expansion.

Agreed. Also, I don't see any space for cards from the original Dominion set.

The page that link leads to has an image that's wrong.

But there's a link on that page to the right one, and that does show space for all cards.

Thanks for the information.  We recently picked up Dark Ages and haven't read through the rules yet or played with them.  We will look at redesigning this so it makes more sense.

The original Dominion set can be placed on the far left (at least, that is where we put in in our design).  You can take a look at the image here: https://www.valtagamecase.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/valta_concept_uber_dominion_card_case.pdf.

We wanted to keep the design consistent with 26 slots per column to help reduce costs (cheaper to cut the same design then a separate one for each column).  Since some expansions have less than 26 sets of cards, we just made the spot available for blank cards, but they can be used for any cards really.

You also do not need to put the cards in the order we laid out.  Some people may want to put them in alphabetical order or some other method of organization.

This is also our very first design and we plan to modify it as we get feedback from people like you.

Sincerely,

VALTA Tactician

I would personally much rather have all the cards in alphabetical order than separated by set. However, I realize that many other people would rather have it separated by set; so I'm not sure of a good way to please everyone there...

I don't know what their plan is for labelling the slots, but if there's an insert that drops into the bottom of each column, they could print two sets of inserts.  One sorts by sets as the picture currently shows, the other sorts strictly alphabetically.

Actually, we are not using labels at all--the cards will peek out high enough to read the name (the cards will be standing vertically).  We know people have many different ways they like their cards sorted.  This way, people can sort them any way they want.  We decided to put the treasure, victory, and randomizer cards in the middle since they add a lot of extra weight.  This will keep the case stable during travel.

Yes.  This is just the internal part; sorry for the confusion.  The outer case is still being developed.

Unfortunately, our manufacturer was not able to get us a price estimate for the case by today.  They installed a new system and it was slowing things down.  I need to wait until next week to launch the project on Kickstarter.  In the meantime, you can check out this video of how The Unofficial Dominion Card Case will work:

yes, this is looking pretty neat.  Also, I'm a terrible person, because the first thing I noticed in that video is that Rogue is spelled "rouge".  Why do these things just jump out at me??

My friends made the animation for me so I guess after typing in over 200 card names, I was bound to get one wrong.  It's unfortunate though.

I would simply ask for a re-render of the video, but it took almost a week of non-stop processing to complete it.  Hopefully, it will not deter anyone from pledging!

I'm from the Midwest region of the US.  Anybody also from there will back me up real fast, that we really use real as an adverb.  It's real fun, and you should try it.

Hey, I'm from Ohio, I get it.  Just poking fun, given you had JUST slammed them for a misspelling.

Just wondering, but what's the big space with a white thing in the middle? It looks like a space for kitchen roll, which I'm sure isn't right... I guess it's for coins/VP tokens etc.?

Yes; that slot will fit the game tokens.  I will be producing a token case that fits the slot, but you can also just dump stuff in it.  The link above will show the layout.

Maybe this comes too late, but it would be nice to store Curses in piles of 10, so as to more quickly take the appropiate number for the number of players you have.

I will have to check with my manufacturer as to what sort of minor modifications we can make.  I'll get back to you after I find out.

I am so glad you asked.  Yes!  There are two versions of the case: one for sleeved cards, which has slots for Kingdom cards measure 6.4cm x 0.8cm.

https://www.valtagamecase.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/valta_concept_dominion_case_sleeved_enduser.pdf

and one for unsleeved cards.

I see that the new Kickstarter page you're working on will have the Sleeved-card case as a reward.  I somehow missed that the first Kickstarter page only had that as a reach-goal.

Do you have an ETA on when the new Kickstarter project will be up?

In other news, the smaller workshop case to bring some but not all cards along to a potential gaming night is a brilliant idea.  Will this reward be offered in a sleeved-cards version?

I see that the new Kickstarter page you're working on will have the Sleeved-card case as a reward.  I somehow missed that the first Kickstarter page only had that as a reach-goal.

Do you have an ETA on when the new Kickstarter project will be up?
The new project will launch as soon as Kickstarter approves it.  I don't think they work over the weekend, so it will probably get approved tomorrow.

I made a mistake not offering it right away.  I was trying to keep the funding goal low but I realize I alienated people.  The new project should fix this.  My apologies.

I have discovered that it is difficult to make good strategic decisions when I am the only one running the project.  I do not really have anyone to bounce ideas off of.  I also do not have access to any market analytics to know how popular sleeved vs. unsleeved cards are.

Let me pose this question to anyone on this thread: is it worthwhile to do two version (sleeved and unsleeved)?  I really don't know how many people do one or the other with their Dominion games.

Thanks!

In other news, the smaller workshop case to bring some but not all cards along to a potential gaming night is a brilliant idea.  Will this reward be offered in a sleeved-cards version?
The smaller case being offered as a reward is actually an early prototype I was working on and it fits both sleeved and unsleeved.  When designing it, I wanted to have a single case that could support both types of players.  The slots are big enough to fit sleeved cards, but if you put in unsleeved cards, there is just a lot of unused space.  This is part of the reason I made two versions for the new case--each version will snugly fit the cards.

I exclusively play with sleeved cards.  I suppose some people don't want to bother with the trouble of sleeving them, possibly more casual players.  But then again, I'm not sure how many casual players will either a) be on these forums, or b) be looking for a storage solution for all expansions.  Those are my thoughts.

Agreed.  If you care enough about Dominion to buy a case for all cards that's as thought out as this one, you most probably sleeve.

I don't sleeve the cards and would buy a case if I had the opportunity. In case anyone is interested, I basically don't sleeve the cards because the effort of doing so does not match the benefits of game preserving. If I played so much so as to damage the cards in a noticeable way, I'd be happy to buy a new set of cards and the money was well spent.

If some store offered the service of sleeving them for me and the price was reasonable, I would do it. I understand it eases up shuffling, is that right?

I think there are players out there who do not sleeve their cards.  Maybe after spending $40-50 bucks on eight games, they get sick of spending and do not want to buy 3,000 sleeves.  Or the effort to do it is just not worth it.

I think I will stick with offering both cases.

Part of the challenge was keeping the case small enough to be shipped for as cheap as possible while still fitting all the cards in.  The sleeved version of the case doesn't quite have enough room for the base card set.  So I am wondering: do people just buy two base card sets and completely replace the existing treasure/victory cards, or do people use them to supplement the existing cards?

Personally, I don't have the Base Cards, and I'm not sure I ever will.  The cards out of the main set and Intrigue are playable, even if they aren't pretty.  That and I also have the German version of Dominion, so I don't really need a 4th set of those cards :)

I posted the new project.  It has sleeved and unsleeved cases available as rewards.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/valta/the-unofficial-dominion-case-for-sleeved-and-unsle

As of now, we are about 7% funded.

Here are some pictures of the actual case.  This is nice to see after only having animations and diagrams to reference.  A video of my durability test is also available soon at:

If anyone lives in the Twin Cities and is interested in seeing the case in real-life, I am bringing it to the Minneapolis Board Game Meetup next Saturday, 13 April 2013.

http://www.meetup.com/mbgmevents/

Let me know if you plan on attending and I will keep an eye out for you.

The project was unsuccessful, but I received a lot of good feedback and I plan to make a new project after Guilds is released.  Also, if you are interested in watching the development of the Dominion Case, you can view it as this Trello board.  If you make an account, you will also be able to vote on features as well as add your own.

I am still working on my Unofficial version of the case and it will now include labels.  You can read my most recent update here:

https://www.valtagamecase.com/2013/06/update-12-post-kickstarter-dominion-card-case-2/

I also wanted to mention that there is an officially-licensed version of the case available on Kickstarter.  Both the creator of this project and I feel that there needs to be multiple types of storage solutions since people will want different things out of them.

I have 20 prototype Dominion cases available on Indiegogo.

http://igg.me/at/dominion-case-prototype-by-valta/x/2759427

These are smaller cases and fit 1-3 games, but your funds will help me keep the Website running as well as pay for continued development.  In addition, Rio Grande games just contacted me back about the licensing.  They just asked for my address to send me stuff, so I do not know much more beyond that, but it is one more step in becoming and officially-licensed Dominion case-maker.

Check out the campaign page for more information.

Status on official Dominion licensing:

Jay Tummelson wrote me back and said he was going to send me an agreement.

Licensing would enable me to:
--print the Dominion logo on the case
--use the Dominion font for the labels

If I sign the document, my case can now be officially licensed.

I would be able to use the Dominion logo and fonts and Rio Grande would get 10% of any case I sold.

https://www.valtagamecase.com/2013/10/official-dominion-licensing-only-a-signature-away/

I am also looking at using a lighter-weight foam since the case can now have plastic support panels.

I also lowered the cost of my Indiegogo cases to $40 since they were going no where.  At this point, I'm just ready to get rid of them.

I have some cases left over from the IndieGoGo campaign.  You can get one for $22.50....if you pay with BitCoin.  That is with USA shipping included.

https://www.valtagamecase.com/product/dominion-cases/dom-000/

Also, stay tuned because in the next week or two, I will have a new Dominion case sample with an Official Logo now that I can be licensed by Rio Grande.

If you are looking to see what sort of Dominion cases are available, check out the comparison of what is currently available.

The Soon-to-be-official Dominion Case is getting closer.  Here is the first look at the logo.  I am also considering an embroidered logo, but it will cost a little bit more.  In the next week or so, I should have heard about the case pricing and maybe even have the sample in my possession.  Stay tuned.

The Soon-to-be-official Dominion case will work with the Cataphract sleeves mentioned above, which are a great deal, especially for international buyers.

The case will also work with:
  • Cataphract sleeves
  • Mayday Premium and Regular
  • Fantasy Flight
  • Unsleeved

The Official Dominion Case is progressing.  A sample of the improved case is on the way as well as samples of the top-down labels that will go in the case.

I am also looking at an embroidered version of the logo.  Let me know what you think here:

The labels for the Dominion Case will be a top-down style, similar to what comes with Dominion.

Woah! I just starting looking for a Dominion storage solution myself, when I stumbled upon this fantastic case in the workings! Is the kickstarter campaign still running for this? I'd really really like to show my support on this somehow.

The Kickstarter is not ready yet, but will be soon.  I am just waiting on some final pricing and to see a physical sample before committing to it.  I am a little bit slow at the whole process since it is just me working on it.  You can follow updates on my site, or sign up for my mailing list:

The last step to begin production is underway this month.  That said, I would love to get your feedback on the pricing of the case.  I won't be able to meet my ideal price, but I know the case will still offer a great value for the money.

I have been working out the pricing of the case and it might be more than many people are willing to pay.  Do you think I should drop the licensing deal in order to reduce the price of the case (no labels or logo)?

Good luck!
£66,000 seems awfully ambitious but i hope you get there.
(You realise to get this you need to sell 492 out of 495 cases you have, seems fairly specific!)

Why dont you have a $1 pledge level, that gets the person a plain old thank, seems the vogue these days
