Here is a combo I discovered today that made for a very fast game: <A href=http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201109/14/game-20110914-014113-14705461.html>Apprentice/Envoy.</A>

To set up this combo I opened silver/Envoy, bought one Apprentice and a ton of treasures and it was, like, off to the races.  The heavy treasure matched well with the envoy, and I used the Apprentice to sacrifice Silvers and Golds, rather than Coppers, to speed through the mid- and end-game.  All non-VP buys throughout were for treasure only, so it never stalled.

That's a nombo...  but hey you're a lvl +40, so what do I know

I guess you never drew the Apprentice with your Envoy in that game...

This is not a combo, it's just two good cards bought in one game.

Didn't matter this time and all the other decisions (regarding the discard of Envoy) were correct.

Okay, I can't help how my opponent played, and in this case it doesn't really have a bearing on the outcome of the match.  I make mistakes like that sometimes.  It happens.

The combo cards were my only actions, and it rushed Colonies just fine.  If that isn't a combo, I don't know what one is.

In my world "combos" means that two or more cards together are better than the sum of them. In your game I feel it was really "only" the sum, even though it was a high one.

This. I don't really see how these two cards interact with each other to create an effect more than that of just playing the two cards individually.

Although it isn't really a combo, 1 Envoy/1 Apprentice clearly dominates over 1 Envoy in a Colony game. But I wouldn't try it in a Province game because those games are too short and Apprentice really loves to trash Silvers which are the cornerstone of Big Money Province strategies...

It certainly IS a combo in my opinion, as the norm would be that envoy kills whatever powerful card you buy it with. Nevertheless, I would be very surprised if this combo works for a Province game.

The measurement standard for Envoy alone is 14 turns to 4 Provinces.  This got 4 Colonies in just 16 turns.  I think that counts as a combo.
