If Dominion...Didn't...Exist...

Ever thought about this? If this wonderful game did not exist, what would you be doing right now? How would it affect your life if the game was gone? Would you be playing something else? Give a little thought to this. I would probably be playing a bunch of other games that don't even compare to Dominion.

Well, if Dominion didn't exist, I would spend the same amount of time on the next best thing, which might even better.
Don't get me wrong, I love Dominion, but I don't think it's that exclusive and somebody else might have designed it.

The reason I prefer Dominion is because that's what I was introduced to at the time. If I would have been introduced to Thunderstone or another similar game I might have been a fanboy of one of them and I would be posting this on thunderstonestrategy.com.

If Dominion didn't exist, my book probably would have been finished by now. But, to be fair, my book is pretty close to completion as is. It has already undergone 100+ drafts. I have been working on it since 2006.

I would be programing some video game in C++ with OpenGL, but I actually started it for months, then stopped, and restarted, and so on...

Chocolate is like victory points in Dominion. Both taste good but they'll hurt you if you eat too much of it instead of something else in your early days.

...I'll trade you 3 sheep for 1 ore. (One lousy ore, come on man! Please? Look how many sheep I will give you. What do you mean you don't need them? They're so useful. Aren't you going to build to the sheep port? No? Okay, how about 4 sheep. No? COME ON!!!")

Well, if Dominion wasn't developed, I believe another deckbuilder would have to take its place. Someone else would have gone: How can we make Magic better for people who don't want to spend gazillions of money (and still end up doing so with all expansions)?

Certainly, though it's difficult to predict true innovation in game mechanics, much like true innovation in science.  I mean, it took ~10 years of Eurogaming being popular in the US before someone said what Donald X. said.  Sure, someone eventually would have come up with it, much like someone eventually would have come up with special and general relativity.  But when?
