I felt I got off to a much better start than she did, 2 labs and a Nobles before she really got anything.  WHat the hell happened?

The biggest difference I can see between your decks is that your opponent got a Gold and you didn't. Gold makes a big difference in drawing because you get the equivalent of a Silver and Copper for only one of the cards, which is huge.

I'm surprised no one went for Conspirators in this game. They'll activate easily and you'll have +Buy from Worker's Village, so they're cantrip Silvers. That makes it really easy to have double Province or even Province+Duchy hands, which is enough to come back from a slight deficit.

My exact first thought after seeing the kingdom. With Loan there as well, it's basically a Conspirator's paradise. But going for the decks you did, the Gold made pretty much all the difference.

I'm approximately 1500 games into this experience, and I still often find that I am short on money.  Yet when I buy only money for the first, say 3 turns (in order to get to $5 for a key card) the shuffled luck screws me, and my opponent (almost always my GF) is buying the $2 or $3 cards that turn out to be critical later.  I'm  just venting here, but jeez I am tired of losing.

OTOH, with councilroom back up, I see that I've improved from winning about 33% of my games (before the site went down) to about 40% of my games.  Woo hoo.

— SwitchedFromStarcraft's turn 9 —
SwitchedFromStarcraft plays a Worker's Village.
... drawing 1 card and getting +2 actions and +1 buy.
SwitchedFromStarcraft plays a Laboratory.
... drawing 2 cards and getting +1 action.
SwitchedFromStarcraft plays a Laboratory.
... drawing 2 cards and getting +1 action.
SwitchedFromStarcraft plays a Nobles.
... getting +2 actions.

SwitchedFromStarcraft plays a Nobles.
... drawing 3 cards.
SwitchedFromStarcraft plays 2 Silvers and 5 Coppers.
SwitchedFromStarcraft buys a Nobles.
SwitchedFromStarcraft buys a Silver.
(SwitchedFromStarcraft draws: 2 Estates, a Silver, and 2 Coppers.)

Playing the first nobles for actions is a serious error. Draw first, then draw again with your second nobles if you don't have an action you want to play. It's the same as when you throne a nobles without compelling actions in your hand: draw first, so you have the option to draw again the second time.
