Ok, I just finished watching the dueling commentaries on the were/lespeutere game; watching both commentaries was fascinating. Thanks both for doing this!
A couple of thoughts:
1) les underestimated the impact of the early Militia in slowing down the race to $5s. Later in the video he made a comment about "how did he get so many Cultists so quickly?" Actually, it was really slow. The one 3-Cultist turn was a function of the early investment in trashing from Lookout and getting so many Villages so the deck was sorta thin. That resulted in a slow phase for him later, as les correctly noted the lack of economy, but it was possible to rebuild from that once the draw engine got going.
2) were, you need to work on your endgame play a lot. There were tons of opportunities to close down on the Pearl Divers, especially with double-buy turns, and you consistently went for Provinces or Duchies (or Estate!) rather than draining the pile. A specific skill I would work on is tracking what your opponent's deck is producing each turn. It was very obvious that les was struggling to get to $5 and he was greening, so his deck was not getting closer to Provinces. That fact makes a small lead much safer. Heck, some of your Province buys could have safely been Duchy + Pearl Diver; it would have preserved your point lead while bringing two piles closer to empty.
3) I think the Silvers were another big issue in this game. were avoided them early, which slowed his economy for a long time. But, it also allowed him to connect a couple of big Cultist chains. By contrast, les had lots of Silvers, which made Duchies quite achievable in the late game, but it also meant that it was really hard to pull together a Province hand when starting from 3 cards and having a decent number of Ruins in the deck. My gut reaction is that were should have gotten a Silver sometime earlier, but the number les got was way too many.
