Best Game: Round 1 Voting and Round 2 Nominations

Here at f.ds we believe in thread conservation. As such, this thread will be used to a) vote for the round 1 best game and b) nominate games for round 2.

The round 1 poll will remain hidden until Sunday evening. And feel free to discuss the round 1 games here if you must.

Now get nominating.

Round 1 Nomination Info
Game 1: 8 point vineyards beat 6 point dukes
Game 2: $10 pirate ship beats $3 pirate ship. Also governor.
Game 3: Jack and Noble Brigand and alt VP
Game 4: Diverging ambassador strategies
Game 5: Tactician to discard tunnels and bishop for points
Game 6: Pirates up to Provinces and a big Wharf/Village engine into Vineyards
Game 7: Goons and crossroads supplemented by apothecaries
Game 8: Marin comes back from 19 point down despite losing the grand markets

My personal favorite out of the above nominees is Game 2: $10 Pirate Ships.

I thought the cards used to support Pirate Ship by antony were used in a quite differently than you usually use them.  Governor feeds the opponent Silver so Pirate Ship can trash it and Loans used to trash Gold?!  You don't see that every day.

I've got a nomination for Round 2.

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/10/game-20121210-110433-d007380e.html
ycz6 vs. yaron, Game 3

I got 10 Scrying Pools, he got 10 Fool's Golds. A classic "very strong BM outpaces slow engine for a while but can't quite close out" game which was extremely tense and had lots of tricky decisions. When is Baron better than Conspirator in an engine?

Okay, I'll nominate three games from my 2nd round series, one for entertainment value and two for sheer crushingness.  I didn't really have anything worthy of submitting in round 1 but I think these three are all interesting games:

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/11/game-20121211-184147-d0637dfb.html

For those that like divergent strategies, we have the Ironworks/Talisman/Silk Road triple piledriver ... on a colony board... against Embassy/Monument/BM.  Will the rush rush in time, or will Embassies with lots of shiny objects be able to catch up in time?  And, how the heck does an Ironworks rush end up with a Platinum on turn 6 anyway?

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/11/game-20121211-181028-05e20dbb.html

How to play double Ambassador well.  I had some poor luck in this game but czechvarmander put on a clinic on how to run double Ambassador well here, drawing his deck in most of the last turns and dishing out 2 curses a turn while mercilessly grinding the game out on piles.

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/11/game-20121211-185256-d462ade5.html

A fairly textbook example of how to rush Vineyards -- in which the little-used Talisman/Pawn opening on a (mirrored) 5/2 board comes in handy.  Features a turn 7 purchase of 4 Potions and lots of Talisman madness for cheap actions.  I had 4 useful Vineyards by turn 12 and was fairly unlucky not to have more by the time my opponent resigned, seeing the inevitable pile-out looming, a few turns later

from my set with peebles:
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/11/game-20121211-172812-2379fce8.html
28 turns, 10 point fairgrounds.

we empty fairgrounds and provinces and nearly empty the black market. nobles and tunnel help spice it up, and almost every single card we pulled from the black market was useful for our engines.

I'll nominate three games from this match.

Game 2 - KC+Rabble game with no +Buy, I have to underspend with $8 or more a whole bunch before I can take the win. video
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/12/game-20121212-195652-3607a53a.html

Game 6- Not as close as the other 2, but a game where a couple of buys (Governor and Goons) from the Black Market are the key to victory. (also in my main write up and the video I think I was more excited about Goons than Governor, but the Governor was probably more important to my victory.) video

Game 8 - Stables, Wharf, and Trader to secure my comeback upset. Every Victory card was bought. video

Last game of my round 2 set with Young Nick. King's court, tournament, chapel, swindler, wharf, bazaar, worker's village = madness.

Ouch, losing by one after buying a non-Victory card on the last turn. That's gotta sting.

Yep. For some reason I wasn't thinking about getting 3 VP cards on a turn. I thought, "I'm up more than 16, so I don't need to buy a Duchy..."

I'll nominate one of my own here:

Quote
Game 6: jonts26 42:40 Cuzz
Ok this is by far the most interesting game of the set. I open remake/scheme to his remake/silver, which should be the better open. Then it's festivals, caravans, torturers, and both vineyards and colonies for points. Oh and an outpost which was super useful. I thought about vineyards and decided to pass because they would not get up to colony points. But at the same time, they are easier to amass with all the extra buys floating around. Cuzz get a handful of potions and gets busy. He gets a crazy good turn 15, but juuuuust short of being able to end it on piles. Going into my turn 15, I'm down 40 to 19. I had finally bought an apprentice on turn 14. So turn 15 I draw my deck, buy 2 colonies and trash a curse to bring us ot even. And then on my outpost turn, I apprentice a colony to draw my deck, remake a bank and a torturer into a province and a gold, which I then draw, and have 4 buys and $22 which is just enough to buy another province, the last 2 festivals and the last scheme to win by 2. Great game.

Some really good nominations this round. I can see three I would definitely pick over my round 1 choice.

Round 1 is complete. Best game goes to Robz888 and Oberown for their game featuring tunnel, tactician, and bishop. Congrats.

Round 2 nominations will be closing soon, so get them in if you can.
