Yeah, Gman, I was a bit sad all of our games were such slogs. However, for all the people who say player interaction doesn't really exist in Dominion, you can just point them towards our games. Every single one was decided/heavily influenced by player interaction. The cursers, the embargoes, going for Gardens/Duchies, all of the Ghost Ship/Torturer game, having to go for Treasure maps, etc. I was definitely glued to the screen during all of your turns.

Mad Dog beat silent revenge 4:3

I'm afraid I didn't grab logs, being something of a n00b to this. Maybe silent revenge will post them.

It was a very close and well fought match.

I can't remember all the details, which is a shame as there were some good games.

The first game I edged but can't remember the details. I may have done it by going for an extra expand to force an extra duchy at the end.

One game silent revenge got to the grand markets before I did and laid waste to em also using menageries to good effect.

The third last match featured tournament; silent revenge IIRC got to the followers first and edged it.

The second last match I actually used explorer for possibly the first time ever in what was effectively a big money game and came back to 3:3.

The decider had both black market and ill gotten gains. I edged the IGG rush 6-4 if I remember rightly, starting black market silver to silent revenge's black market beaurocrat then went bagging duchies while silent revenge grabbed a couple of apprentices. I managed to clear the duchy pile while spamming my hand with copper to edge a very close and well fought match.

Apologies re the logs which I hope I'll do better with next time.

sharkbait (4) over domignon (61) in a 3-0-1 series

Game 1

Key Cards - Torturer and Minion

With identical start, we both grab Torturer.  I know the game is over when he buys a Hoard with his first $6.  After that it's just a long grind as the only trashing in Trade Route and Shanty town is a sub-par village for Torturer chains.

sharkbait wins 43-05

Game 2

Key Cards - Native Village, Mint and Treasure Map

I initially looked at this board and considered going for a HoP megaturn.  With my opening of Caravan/Silver I was actually considering it.  But with no net gain +Card except in the form of the Native Village mat, I didn't know how feasible it would be.  I called an audible when I drew 5 Copper on Turn 4 and decided to Mint them away and then just activate Treasure Maps.  I was able to activate earlier than domignon and with no +buy that easily led to the win.

sharkbait wins 39 - 27

Game 3

Key Cards - Ambassador, Platinum and Adventurer

There is no draw except for cantip actions and Adventurer so no engine too viable here.  But it is Colony/Platinum so it is beneficial to go with Ambassador.  I opt to grab an IW at start so I can pick up some of the cheap cantrip villages tot easily get multiple Ambassador turns.  My opponent buys a curse early in the Ambassador war with a Worker's Village +buy.  That really did not help him as I was already maintaining a slight lead.

shark_bait win 10 - (-100)

Game 4

Key Cards - Grand Market, Smugglers, Jester, Remodel, Apothecary

I really want to hit up the Apothecary this game as IMO it is an incredibly underrated card.  This kind of fall flat on its face when I get my potion on Turn 5.  I am gifted with a GM with Navigator/Silver/Silver on Turn 6 and I deliberate for a moment knowing that my opponent will probably smuggle it.  I decide to buy it anyways knowing that I can simply smuggle it back for a 2-1 initial split.  When his Jester then hits my GM on his Turn 8 I'm not optimistic about the outcome.  We trade GM's with Jester hits on Turn 15 and at this point I am behind.  Down by 7 points with 1 Province left I prepare myself for the next game.  Then my Jester hits a VP card of his I get the last Province to force a tie.  At that point my opponent offered to call the match.

Thanks for the series and hopefully next time I'll get the video recordings.

I'm afraid I won against Personman by forfeit  :( To quote him,
Quote
I think I should just forfeit.
(Could an admin check what I say, looking at my PM, or should I make a printscreen ?)

Sad, cause I registered to play as much as possible in this tournament. However, I hope that next rounds will be better for me.

Tenuki (who's a lurker and whose english is so horrible that he does not post for now - but will try to do his best in the next few months, hopefully :) )

Mad dog won 4-3. I actually have all the logs except game 7, which I cant seem to find

Game 1: http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/06/game-20121206-140850-04ee5f68.html
Mad dog was able to get an early expand that was a huge difference maker.

Game 2: http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/06/game-20121206-141623-d1556519.html
Getting two early witches with bazaar was key here, and then was able to use the double masquerade to spoil his hands.

Game 3: http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/06/game-20121206-142645-7fd70176.html
Could never get the watchtower/festival/highway engine to line up and create and powerful turns, and he had some well timed Barons that gave him a commanding win.

Game 4: http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/06/game-20121206-143856-d33afde6.html
Ambassador deck with no +actions available. Was able to successfully use the menagerie to get 7/10 grand markets and pull even 2-2.

Game 5: http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/06/game-20121206-144636-c1f45368.html
Used Horse Traders/Loan/Peddler to replace coppers with Peddlers, while Mad dog went for explorers. With no +action cards, Peddler was able to win out.

Game 6: http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/06/game-20121206-145316-83941ad6.html
Mad dog's early hunting parties were the difference here, and could never really get my throne rooms to get extra actions in a deck that otherwise had no +actions. Mad dog had an early province that took out a few of what would have been decent tournament turns.

Game 7: dont have the log, but Mad dog used ill gotten gains (6-4 edge) and then ran out the duchies to take the match.

Well played, good luck going forward.

Game3: http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/06/game-20121206-100542-fa32503e.html

By far my toughest game.

Kingdom: Envoy, Pearl Diver, Pirate Ship, Possession (Potion), Scheme, Secret Chamber, Trade Route, Vineyard (Potion), Walled Village, and Wharf
#1 lipo12 opening: Pirate Ship / Scheme
#2 paddyodoors opening: Pirate Ship / Trade Route

I was afraid this would turn into a Pirate Ship affair, and my opponent started with it right off the bat.  I'm not very good with Pirate Ship, and especially when there is no other "virtual money" around -- so my choices after seeing lipo12's opening were to either a) feed his/her Pirate Ship(s) by going for Big Money-Wharf OR b) go for Pirate Ship myself.  I always dislike PS-PS matches, as both sides end up often find themselves with no real way to end the game quickly.

I choose the Pirate Ship route.  However, I didn't notice Scheme until almost too late, realizing that my opponent could get a lot of my Coppers trashed quickly and ramp up his/her Pirate Ships faster than mine, while at the same time killing my "secondary" economy.  At this point, I'm pretty much dead.  I'm regretting not opening Scheme myself (Trade Route was pretty bad here! -- definitely a big mistake on my part).

lipo12 goes for Provinces pretty quickly, amassing quite a few.  Enough so that I couldn't catch up without a total, complete stall on his/her part (which wasn't really possible with Scheme around).  I figure out that Scheming ("Schemeing"?) a Secret Chamber can make it so that lipo12's Pirate Ships never go any higher than 5, but that doesn't really stop him/her from using them as action-Platina ("Platinums"?).  And then I see it - Vineyards!  I had discounted Vineyards as soon as I saw lipo12's initial buy, as the Potion would be vulnerable to the Pirate Ships.  But once my opponent was in the greening stage, he/she was no longer using the Pirate Ships for the attack!

However, with some luck, I ended up getting my PSs to $4, being able to buy Walled Villages and "Wharfs", and drawing my whole deck every turn while lipo12 was choking on the green.  The Schemes really helped "grease the wheels" here, allowing me to put back a Wharf, Walled Village, and Secret Chamber every turn.  In a "you-learn-something-new-everyday" moment, I figured out that the top-decked Secret Chamber served as a pseudo-sifter, since my opponent was guaranteed to play an attack card every turn (the Schemed Pirate Ship(s) -- his/her only economy).  With 2 Potions, and plenty of buys, I was able to juice up my Vineyards to 11 points each (virtual "Colonys"!), and end the game on piles.

The disparity of the final score (94-42) is NOT a good indicator of how the game went.  I really thought I was toast.

There is virtual +$ on the board, i.e. secret chamber. Only thing you need is a wharf and a secret chamber. Once you have them both it's no problem to acquire more villages, schemes, wharvfesss' and secret chambers. That should make a province route for you easier to walk. But vineyards obviously were more promising.

Round 1--shraeye beats cherdano 4-2.

Game 1 (cherdano-49 shraeye-36): http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/07/game-20121207-142301-c1a10fe3.html
I thought the winning strategy on this board would be Bazaars/Monuments and use Forge to turn estates into more Monuments to get them played.  Cherdano gets more monuments though, and more treasure.  I get behind at the start, and try to catch up by being fancy with Farmland; it just junks my deck and cherdano claims the win.

Game 2 (shraeye-49 cherdano-34): http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/07/game-20121207-144618-cdad0ff5.html
We both open silver/tournament on a Colony board.  Mountebank features, and Lookout was our best trasher.  I decide to buy an early Province and luck out as it hits and I pick up Followers to help the curse split (which I think I still lost, since I bought no Moats, and cherdano bought 3).  Game ends on piles with curses/estates/tournament gone.  My second to last turn, I had a scare, where I played Trusty steed for cards/actions, when just actions/+2$ would have sealed the win.  I had to watch one more turn full of level2 Cities and cross my fingers.

Game 3 (cherdano-42 shraeye-44): http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/07/game-20121207-145850-7ca5d4f8.html
Both open Silver/Trader.  I am thinking to go straight money, but pick up 2 labs and a market with $5 turns.  Farmland is on this board as well.  Near the end, we both avoided buying province on PPE rule, cherdano tries once, and I hit the 8 I need to win.

Game 4 (cherdano-25 shraeye-38): http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/07/game-20121207-151510-ab320810.html
Young Witch with Native Village as a bane.  I use Warehouse for cycling. Cherdano opts for Black Market, and more fishing villages, trying to win curse split.  Out of the Black Market he grabs an early wharf, and a witch as well.  I buy mostly money (late trade route) and win despite curses.  I had a last turn, where I remebered NOT to draw a card to my NV mat (which was empty), since my Warehouse and Trade Route hadn't come on that shuffle yet.  It turns out Warehouse was next, and using that got me exactly the 8 I needed to finish.

Game 5 (cherdano-38 shraeye-26): http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/07/game-20121207-152623-55a530b0.html
Fishing Villages, Milita, Bishop.  I tried too hard to get fancy with the Fishing Village stack, and use HoP as +buy to get these as well.  Cherdano's more sensible strategy of buy gold, get 5 provinces ended up being stronger.

Game 6 (shraeye-42 cherdano resigns): http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/07/game-20121207-153712-69234934.html
Mining Village/Embassy with King's Court.  Also pawns for +buys and Expand to turn Estates into crucial engine pieces.  I probably didn't do this efficiently enough, as I get my 4th colony on Turn 17.  but I hit 11$ early enough, that I went for getting Colonies over getting treasure. (colonies on turns 11/13/16/17, platinum on 14, gold on 16).  Cherdano was using Apothecaries to line up his KC better, and may have gone double colony soon, but my go-for-the-throat strategy won out.

This was an awesome set of games, really my heart was beating like crazy the whole time; thanks cherdano!

andwilk 4-1 ilpars

andwilk 2-0 ilpars (in progress)

Game 1: andwilk defeats ilpars (34-20 I think, forgot to grab game log)
Mountebank game where we both open 5/2.  I buy more Farming Villages and go heavy on Mountebank early which allows me to win the curse split 6-4.  The Farming Villages allow me to skip over my junk cards and I also win the Province split 5-3.

Game 2:  ilpars 30 - 51 andwilk (http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/05/game-20121205-144450-cb684b73.html)
Goons/City game with Menagerie for defense/draw.  My opponent never invests in Cities, instead opting for Bazaars with $5 buys.  I accelerate to victory once piles start to run out.

We will continue our match on Saturday.

Game 3: ilpars 32-16 andwilk (http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/08/game-20121208-124446-30807cb1.html)
I can describe this game in a meme... ready?

Game 4: andwilk 51-49 ilpars (http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/08/game-20121208-125531-4473149a.html)
Fast Double Tactician board with Bishops and Peddlers.  I get the double-Tactician set up first and am eventually able to buy a Province and Bishop a Peddler consistantly for 11 VP/turn in the end.

Game 5: ilpars 15-33 andwilk (http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/08/game-20121208-130257-588814b3.html)
IGG-rush and I open 5/2.  I win the rush 7-3, but it also seemed like my opponent wasn't familiar with IGG-rush type games.

shocksteel (2) vs. Xenoman (4)

A great set of games with a great opponent!

shocksteel 31 - Xenoman (resign): http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/08/game-20121208-141229-305b36e8.html

Despite being a Colony game, Tournaments prove to be the decider here.

Xenoman 42 - shocksteel 32: http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/08/game-20121208-143828-95581e18.html

This one came down to a risk. Since I started, I couldn't tie the game, and I had to keep overcoming the occasional Curse thrown by Young Witches. Eventually I gambled and went for the last two Provinces, and got lucky.

shocksteel 45 - Xenoman 30: http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/08/game-20121208-145408-aec1f424.html

In this one, shocksteel came out ahead. I couldn't win the game, but I bought the penultimate province. It was shocksteel's superior Vault play that secured this victory.

Xenoman 26 - shocksteel 24: http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/08/game-20121208-150323-af195828.html

I elected to go with a DoubleJack strategy, hoping it would overcome the Mountebanks; it did, but just barely. I again risk the penultimate province, hoping my deck was better able to handle the bloat due to the extra Silvers. I came out ahead.

shocksteel 34 - Xenoman 38: http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/08/game-20121208-151440-f106fdb1.html

My double Steward may not have been the best choice, but in the end two trimmed decks come down to the wire.

shocksteel 23 - Xenoman 24: http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/08/game-20121208-152025-2b567bf7.html

I open double Masquerade because of the Mountebank, thinking that shocksteel may go for it (and I was right). It still came down to one turn.

Great games! I've never played Dominion in a competitive context. It certainly is different!

G5 Slurms(46) - relaximadoctor(18) Jack/IGG I get Jacks early whereas relaximadoctor gets IGGs. I end up getting the larger amount of IGGs later and am able to draw enough money with Jack consistently to buy out the Provinces.
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/08/game-20121208-152034-8fb5a408.html Slurms wins

G6 relaximadoctor(lost) - Slurms(won). Forgot to keep the log file for this one.

G7 relaximadoctor(42) - Slurms (resigned) Apothecary/Golem/Ghost Ship/IGG relaximadoctor gets an early upgrade vs my IGG and managed to get more Apothecaries and stay ahead the whole game, Ghost Ship is punishing!

Wingnut (44) beats WHARF 2 THA BRIDGE (21) 4-3

Game 1 - http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/08/game-20121208-200706-5844e3c3.html

Swindler and Duke game. WHARF played better and also had better luck with the Swindlers. Just a bit of a slog. Nothing much to say.
WHARF wins 54-43

Game 2 - http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/08/game-20121208-202114-e4c560e3.html

Goons game. I opened Chancellor/Potion aiming for Apothecary while WHARF opened Silver/Silver. I used a Mint to trash 3 Coppers allowing me to use some spare buys on copper, especially with Apothecary around to suck them up too. Also, Royal Seal ended up being key allowing me to play topdeck Goons on turns 10-12 and then topdeck Crossroads and Apothecary on turn 13. Ultimately, the game was decided by me reaching the double Goons threshold earlier, forcing a tactical change from WHARF to Silk Road. When the slog continued, I was able to reach Province twice at the end while he was not.
Wingnut wins 70-58

Game 3 - http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/08/game-20121208-202523-557fca01.html

Fishing Village/Embassy/Council Room/Monument. WHARF oddly skipped Fishing Village in his opening buy and also never picked up a Council Room. This doomed him as I played Monument more and picked off 5 Provinces in 13 turns. This also doubles as one of the best games of Dominion I have ever played as far as my play.
Wingnut wins 45-23

Game 4 - http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/08/game-20121208-202952-be9999c9.html

Just a dull board where I crazily opened Noble Brigand and paid for it. I never completely caught up after that as WHARF used his Apprentices to great effect.
WHARF wins 31-24

Game 5 - http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/08/game-20121208-203605-32231515.html

This was my bad beat game (and it wasn't bad compared to the next game). I opened 5-2 on a board without a great 5 (Festival often is, but in this kingdom it was basically a Woodcutter) and no 2. Still, I made a run at it with Harems and got close before breaking PPR to take the lead and hoping for WHARF to not have it. He did.
WHARF wins 35-31

Game 6 - http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/08/game-20121208-204318-e1c67f7b.html

I opened 5-2 on a board with Witch, Hamlet and Peddler. Also, it was Colonies. Good game. WHARF had no chance. It ended on piles ultimately (Peddlers, Mengeries and Curses)
Wingnut wins 28-12

Game 7 - http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/08/game-20121208-210112-af69d208.html

Finally, a Possession game to decide everything. Seriously. In part because Torturer and Minion were vetoed. I took an early lead with Possession as I used Library to keep bypassing it in his deck keeping him from playing it until he adapted. And adapt he did. After turn 14, I had 4 Provinces and a Duchy and WHARF had nothing. Then WHARF double Possessed me on turn 15 and and 16, getting back into the game with some nice play of my deck (trashing Provinces with Remake to lower handsize for additional plays of Library to cycle through and get to what was needed). Ultimately, I bought a Duchy on my final turn and ended the game on the Possessed turn by Remaking two Potions into Duchies and buying the final one while also gaining the final Library with University to end the game on piles (Bazaars also gone).
Wingnut wins 39-27 and wins the match 4-3

Game3: http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/06/game-20121206-100542-fa32503e.html

By far my toughest game.

Kingdom: Envoy, Pearl Diver, Pirate Ship, Possession (Potion), Scheme, Secret Chamber, Trade Route, Vineyard (Potion), Walled Village, and Wharf
#1 lipo12 opening: Pirate Ship / Scheme
#2 paddyodoors opening: Pirate Ship / Trade Route

...

See, THIS is why I'm not one of the most notable Dominion players! =)

Seriously, thanks.  I am pretty bad at finding a use for Secret Chamber's action outside of Grand Market.  This is quite enlightening.

I hate to do this.  I mean I really hate to do this.

Here is a link to a solitaire game that I played for a few seconds on Isotropic at 5:04.  I had been waiting for Orange to complete our match since around 4:50.  We were supposed to play today at 5:00 to complete our match.

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/09/game-20121209-140425-aebc2cdb.html

I've messaged Orange and I hope he's ok.

If he doesn't get back to me, I guess I win by default?  If he does, I'd be more than happy to finish up our match, but I won't be available until Tuesday evening...

I think you give more than 10 minutes lead time. I don't know how much, but I would guess 10 minute leeway is not such a big deal, unless you stressed "it must be EXACTLY this time because my schedule is very cramped" or something when setting up the match time.

I stayed waiting for a good 10-20 minutes after that, although I have no proof to back that statement up.

Orange PMed me about a half hour ago.  We're gonna try to finish out set tonight, if we can catch each other online.

So, I finally got to play agains MasterThing2, after having trouble reaching him during the week.

luliin - MasterThing2   4-0 (and one draw)

Game 1: http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/09/game-20121209-162832-1e41e9ea.html luliin - MasterThing 2, 48 - 27

A bishop heavy game, where I went for a Lookout to slim down my deck further. It ended up as a less optimal golden deck, but I managed to empty the Province pile.

Game 2: http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/09/game-20121209-163507-277bd16f.html luliin - MasterThing2, 34 - 34

He got an early lead on the crazy Ironworks - GH board, and somehow I managed to end on a tie. It was mostly luck, though.

Game 3: http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/09/game-20121209-164301-a4543491.html luliin - MasterThing2, 39 - 32

Not a very excitinng board. Quarry made Market a hot target but my Adventurer managed to get me a few Provinces. Won by having a few Duchies.

Game 4: http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/09/game-20121209-165005-fadec697.html luliin - MasterThing2, 50 - 31

A board dominated by IGG. I bought more green and got an early expand, being able to expand the IGG's to Provinces and secure my lead.

Game 5: http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/09/game-20121209-165847-208f88f5.html luliin - MasterThing2, 53 - 33

He went for Silk Roads, and I went for Monuments, Young Witch and some other actions and ended up with an ok deck able to buy a few Provinces and winning by three-piling.

All in all, it was really fun to finally be able to play our games.

Buggy vs Orange - being played tonight

Maybe.  We seem to keep missing each other.  I'm in Secret Chamber on Iso waiting, but need to go to sleep at 10 EST.  Not sure what to do if we don't finish up the match tonight.
