Personally, (at least in Colony games) my favorite target has been Merchant Ship. Especially when you have good trashing available via Chapel or Mint.

The best I've had is Forge - Kc/Forge/Fortress/Fortress niche, but one of those "wait you can do that?" moments for the opponent.

I'd make a nomination for Rogue. First, it allows you to utterly hose the other guy's deck - trashing gold without letting them get silver or 4 coin kingdom cards. Second it lets you swipe key cards (like say their Rogue's) so not only are you hurting them, but you are building up your own deck. Lastly, it doesn't allow the other guy to pile deplete like when you chain Sab a province.

How about Swindler?  You get $6 and the opponent gets 3 of their cards blown away -- I had one game where I KC-Swindler and gave the OP a curse and 2 Counting Houses.

Well, by the time you have KC your opponent's deck may have some high value cards already like Golds and KC's himself which you'd only be replacing by the same copies, so I think it's fun when you can replace with bad cards, but hardly guaranteed.

I tend to think Swindler gets progressively worse as the game goes on, but of course, it depends. Trashing a Minion for another $5 can be pretty critical even in the late stages.

I've replaced Golds with Adventurers and Farmlands before...although I was never sure how good of an idea that was.

Definitely a good idea to replace gold with adventurer.  Farmland depends on how close the end game is.

Anyway, don't be hating on Adventurer now, it can be pretty good especially in the greening stage.
