Played a game yesterday IRL where I went for a Bandit Camp and Hunting Grounds and such deck and after I had bought a few Bandit Camps my opponent Embargoed Spoils...how did i miss that!?!
As in, "How did I not realise that could happen"? Because Spoils isn't a supply pile, so (a) you can't Embargo it, and (b) you don't buy Spoils, so you wouldn't be cursed for gaining them even if there were some way to Embargo them.

I'm pretty sure you got it upside down, it's on buy.

If Embargo were when-gain, you could Embargo the Curses and they would become a black hole.

When a player buys a card, he gains a curse per Embargo token on that pile.
Not sure what card you're looking at ...

I'd hate to be the player to you left after you Embargo the Silver and buy an Embassy in a 6 player game >_<

Doesn't strictly qualify, but thanks to my opponent's Pirate Ship flotilla and his unwillingness to resign or end the game when mathematically eliminated, I ended with this spectacular deck (and I bought the copper right near the end):

#1 DWetzel: 98 points (7 Colonies, 3 Provinces, 2 Duchies, and 4 Estates); 33 turns
         opening: Steward / Potion
         [28 cards] 5 Hunting Parties, 2 Apothecaries, 1 Cellar, 1 Fortune Teller, 1 Steward, 1 Copper, 1 Gold, 4 Estates, 2 Duchies, 3 Provinces, 7 Colonies

That Gold was a wily, elusive coin.

Not much business for the Apothecaries.  They got some bad press after that whole business with the Capulets.

It's good that KC isn't mandatory; you can skip the second and third Mountebanks and buy a gold, giving your opponent only six top-decked silvers rather than 18.

This is why you always choose TR-KC-Mountebank-Mountebank and leave a Mountebank dead, rather than KC-TR-Mountebank-Mountebank-Mountebank

I was just yesterday contemplating changing my username to j walter weatherman.  So i could do post-mortem game analyses such as "And that's why you don't skip a mountebank". (Unless, apparently, trader and watchtower and king's court are also on board...)

I played this pretty terribly on the whole, but I just had a Gardens game in which I played KC-KC-Bureaucrat-Bureaucrat-Bureaucrat

Extra WTF points for using Scrying Pool to set it up...because SP *loves* tons silver ;)

Would have been even better if you'd drawn the hand from an alternating Rabble/Council Room engine.

It's too bad I only had 4 of them, but 15 point Vineyards are fun.

Checked off list: Transmuting Ambassador - Duchy to end the game on piles for the win.

Ugliest game ever, featuring: Ambassador, Swindler, Saboteur, Sea Hag, and Golem on a 5/2 opener.  Games should not end on Duchies, Curses, and Cellars.  They just shouldn't.

This used to happen all the time IRL when my roommate and I didn't bother with the "suggestion" of using only 8 provinces and 10 curses in a two player game, and just used full stacks.  It is hard for two players to buy all 12 Provinces while wading through 15 curses a piece and generally being awful at the game.

I agree that game sucked. Also estates had to be close I had swindled 3-4 of yours.

I think we were down to 2 or so.  It was ugggggly.

In other fun stupid pet tricks, my opponent resigned just now after:

#1 DWetzel: 1 point (2 Estates and a Curse); 8 turns
         opening: Trader / Silver
         [25 cards] 3 Caches, 2 Traders, 1 Pawn, 7 Coppers, 8 Silvers, 1 Gold, 2 Estates, 1 Curse

I (heart) Trader/Cache.

And each turn after that he buys a Colony and ends the game with a win because you now have 18 silvers on your deck.

Not possible.  5 Silver is not enough for a Colony.  But even if it were:

I think the point was that the KC-Mountebank player might have an economy that can get to $11 in the next few turns, but the Trader-Watchtower player does not - making the Trader-Watchtower plan not seem so smart after all.
