Bad, even before opening to the public. Deleting the advertising or even deleting the user?

I for one would love to know how much paint it takes to cover a wall!

But there is a link to it from the forums, so it is technically open to pubic, plus we are all putting links on the forum here that the spiders will pick up

Is there any way to stop new users / guests from creating new pages for a while?  Is the registration CAPTCHA strong enough?

Depends on why you ask. I can just change temporarily the rights for unregistered and non Administrators.

Could we require users register on f.ds (and maybe post to intros) to post on w.ds?  No bot is gonna figure that out, but it should be pretty low cost for people.

Spam feature activated. There are now Dominion related questions when you create an account, create a page, add links or did a bad login.
Admins and Bots are excluded from this list.
So you can still anonymously edit a page without a Captcha, but only when you do not add links. If this isn't restriction enough, then I can change this later.
Let me know if this works.

Thanks! What Dominion-related questions are there? I tried it out and got "What card do you have to play to get a Mercenary?" or something like that. I think it was a little too difficult. We don't need editors to know all the expansions to edit, they just need to not be spam bots. I'd recommend using simpler questions that anyone who has played a single game of Dominion can answer, like "What basic Treasure card costs $3?" or "How many Victory points is Province worth?".

Bump since I'm still wondering about this.

Sorry.

I can change this to easier questions, shouldn't be a problem.
But OTOH I feel that anyone who wants to sign up or contribute to the wiki is an experienced player. That's what we want, isn't it?
If a non experienced player wants to edit, he can still change a lot without Captcha, as long as it isn't a link (which probably isn't added by a newbie).

I think we should set the bar as low as possible. For a wiki to survive, it needs plenty of interested editors, and this might include some very new players. New players would be just as good as you or I at tasks like getting the artists page right, etc. And even if they don't want to add links, they might want to register an account, which also requires a Captcha if I recall correctly.

When you speak of adding links, does it distinguish between internal links to other pages on the wiki versus external links to outside webpages?  It's really the latter that ought to be restricted, but I'm not sure if the distinction can be done easily.

I agree -- the purpose is just to make sure you are not a bot, not whether you are a Dominion trivia master.  Heck I had to look up the answers for some of these ...

You're kidding, right?
Ok, I admit that I tried to be creative and not only ask for basic cards.
Apparently, it's not that easy.
I will change some of them.

Yeah, anybody who plays primarily on isotropic might have to look up stuff about any Dark Ages card. And later on, when there's a switch to Goko, you might have people who have played a lot but haven't bought, like, Alchemy or something.

How much does Silver cost?  Answer with just the number.
How much does Gold cost?  Answer with just the number.
How much does X cost?  Answer with just the number.
How many Coppers are in your starting deck?

Questions should probably stay away from expansions, since not everyone will be familiar with them.  But they should all be familiar with the very basic set up.  Arguably the base game itself could be fair game, since most people will be familiar with it.

What card gives +3 Cards and nothing else?
What card gives +1 Card, +2 Actions and nothing else?
What card in the base game distributes Curses?

I just registered. I got the question what is the only Victory Reaction in the game. I thought it was a cool question but that would be difficult for anyone not super familiar with the game

Even this is too complicated, I think.  This forum's question is "How many coins does Gold cost" and I worried for a bit over whether that was too much.

Literally any question ("Does Dominion start with the letter 'd'?") will suffice for anti-spam needs.

On the other hand, now registering for an account has a built in Dominion quiz mini game.
