good effin' question.  It's pretty epic.  Who knows when I'll get more books to be reading?  sometime within the next 6 years?

See, I just started, so if I don't go too hard I might get the 6th book on a nice continuous streak. But I highly doubt that I'll read slowly enough to not have finished the first 6 by the time the 7th comes out. And, I might just blitz the series and find myself with nothing to read by Christmas. But that's when I'll start Wheel of Time!

council room is down right now, but if it was up you could figure out when i flew through the series earlier this year just by looking at my level and games played graphs. i'm a pretty big reader, and it is some of the best stuff i have read.

Love the books, and HBO has done a great job of adaptation.

I recommend Malazan Book of the Fallen.  Also, Shadows of the Apt.

Why has there been no topic on this yet?

Ice and Fire is sooo passe these days
Everyone has heard of it, read it, seen the series.

Its brilliant, everyone agrees its brilliant.

Now, his Wild Cards anthology, set against the McCarthy communist trials, that is also awesome and under-read!

Yeah, pretty big fan here. Read it for the first time recently, maybe a year before the show started, mainly because I bought the Board Game first and I liked it (was really surprised that nobody answered when I wanted to host it in Forum Games :( ). Read the books, read the prequels, saw the show, played the Board Game (both editions) like almost a hundred times by now... fun fun fun.

@Ozle - Wild Cards are kinda pretty low on "to read list" of comics, mainly because I didn't hear from it's readers. So, is it good?

Didn't know it was a comic, I only have read the books.
Its super hero's, but not quite, most are fairly anti-hero types. And the backdrop is very political, taught me quite a lot about the McCarthy era Communist Withchunt trials

Not sure how well that will come across in comic format

My advice: read the first three, get the cliff notes for bookes 4-9 and pick it up from there.

I've just started reading the first book, but I'm yet to be hooked. I have a long read ahead of me before I can judge it fairly, though.

I never found the writing style to be overly gripping, but the character stories did become rather intriguing in time.

For me, ASOIAF.

While WoT just went on endlessly, I found the writing much more captivating.

I've read all but the latest book. It's the only one that hasn't been translated to finnish yet, I just bought it in english but man is it painful to read. I'll probably wait for the translation, doesn't matter much where I leave it because can't get to the end anyways. :/ Really like the tv-series too, that's what got me reading the books.

ASoIaF are really good books, definitely worth reading.

WoT OTOH isn't worth all the trouble. Rather read something quality, like Le Guin's Earthsea series or anything by Neil Gaiman. (Not that all of them are horrible, just that the compared to the length there are a lot of better books which you can read in a much shorter time).

I second anything by Neil Gaimon, although suggest American Gods as the best!
