Am I the only person in the world that pronounces them me-me's?
Got roundly mocked the other day for this, but me-me just seems to fit it so much better than 'meem'

If it makes you feel better, it's a made up word.

To be fair to the word, though, it's older than many (most? hard to say) of the people who frequent this board.

I read it as me-me. "Me" as in "metal" not as in.. me.

That's presumably a language barrier thing.

But that sounds like a baby crying!

But I am happy that someone else reads it as 2 sylabuls!

I was introduced to the concept through The Selfish Gene, so I guess I've always intuitively understood that it's modeled after the word gene.

It's a shorted version of the Greek word for "imitate".

The word meme is an onomatopoeic word. It originates from a user on f.ds who was asked the question: "Who want's some respect?" and posted a picture with a funny caption saying: "ME! ME!". The term was later condensed into the shorter version "meme", which is now commonly used.
