The best kind of megaturn!

For me, megaturn engines are some of the most fun and satisfying strategies to pursue. It's not always possible, but when all the components are there, you know you're in for a fun ride.

So what kind of megaturn engine do you find most fun? Give me more choices and I'll add them to the list!

"Something else" is always more fun (making usually crappy cards work). But other than that, HoP baby.

How does a Horn of Plenty megaturn work?
Quite poorly, usually.

Joking aside, the idea is to acquire a bunch of Horns, then on your megaturn draw them all along with enough other cards that you can exchange each Horn for a Province.

Highway+Market ftw!

Yeah, I love this one too! Should've had it on the original ballot.

I was also thinking of doing something with possession, but those aren't usually exactly megaturns, but it is sometimes turn after turn after turn after turn...

The Goons megaturn. There is something about seeing all those little black triangles on the Iso interface that directly stimulates the brain's pleasure center.

How does a Horn of Plenty megaturn work?
Hitting $7 and needing to grab Duchies because the game is close to ending.

I haven't played Dark Ages + Hinterlands at all so I've never had the opportunity, but Highway/Market Square seems like it could be even more potent that Highway/Market, since now the components aren't competing with each other at the same price-point and the engine is overall cheaper to assemble.

I almost said Goons, but decided not to. Sure it's fun to get 300vp in one turn, but everyone hates you afterwards ::)

Gonna have to go with Native Villag/Bridge...especially when playing with newbies!

I said Goons, but I'm almost inclined to go with Other: KC + whatever which somehow made an engine thanks to the existence of KC.

King's court with Worker's village

then 3 'Goons' cards

Guaranteed 7 buys and 21 VP's (from the Goons) plus whatever else one gets from the cards drawn with the worker's village, and also slowing the opponents down...

Horn of Plenty. It is complicated to set up, and IRL if you are playing it with someone who doesn't know how to set it up, the expression of horror on their face when you do is priceless.

To me, the most satisfying victory is to come out ahead on a Grand Market split, and then use them buy the entire Estate pile in a single turn, ending the game on piles, the turn after my opponent bought their first Province.

I am aware that is a rather specific chain of events. That's part of what makes it so satisfying.

Adding to the above poster:

The kinds of megaturns that I enjoy the most, if you'd even call them megaturns, are 3-piling while sneaking out a win. Especially IRL, opponents don't expect it and many lols (for lack of a more fitting term) are to be had.

I kind of hate premature three-pile ending. I feel that many card which could be fun are not because they promote this kind of super lame end. University being foremost among them. I think they're a necessary evil, but I'm seldom satisfied when a game ends that way.

Same here. I am good at looking out for those kind of endings, but I always feel unsatisfied when I pull an ending off like that. Though, every now and then, an opponent will pull a surprise like that on me. Although, not too often because I am usually careful keeping track of piles.
