Hello, Name's Bruce!

I figure it's about time I did this.  To start things off, I have a huge fascination with marine life.  To accommodate that hobby, I have a 45 gallon saltwater aquarium filled with tons of awesome fish and coral.  Among my fish are a Hippo Tang named Dora and a clownfish named Jon Snow because quite frankly, he's a bastard.  My aquarium hobby also means that I find Finding Nemo to be an awesome movie.  And as you may have guessed by now from my icon and username, my favorite character is Bruce the shark because my name is actually Bruce.

I recently took about a month and half hiatus from the forum and isotropic as I just started chemistry graduate school this fall and I wanted to remove this time sink as I got things figured out with my schedule.  I'm currently on a project involving metal enhanced fluorescence to improve the ability of imaging in live cells through utilizing the plasmon effect present in nanosized metals.  Other pertinent things about me.  I am addicted to LSD (Long Slow Distance).  I am a distance runner and barring physical injury, plan on running the Chicago marathon next fall which will hopefully result in the Boston Marathon in the Spring of 14.

I don't know if I'll make the transition to Goko or not.  I absolutely love isotropic and I fear that my response will be similar to the transition from Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 to Roller Coaster Tycoon 3.  In a nutshell, they significantly changed the game play and the user interface resulting in hardcore RCT2 players to not want to play RCT3 because is was so drastically different from the original game that they loved.

Hello!  I was midway through a chemistry major in college before MO diagrams kicked my butt back and forth.

@Ozle - They did.  And it was the best gaming experience of my childhood!  Such a fun game.  The custom roller coaster building was the best part. And that unfortunately is what they overhauled in RCT3, ruined the game for me  :(

@yuma - Unfortunately not right now.  I don't have enough time to be an extremely active player which is what is required to really contribute.  Maybe over xmas break though...  ;)

I always preferred SimGolf (Sid Meier's 2002 version) to RCT, and I don't even play golf.  Perhaps what the custom rollercoaster building was to you, the golf course creating was to me.

Sim City 2000! And Roller Coaster Tycoon, although I never not quite as into that one as I would have liked.

if you are expecting to qualify for boston then i am not sure that counts as long slow distance.

I just did Chicago a couple of weeks ago. It's a great, very well-run race.

The two people I did it with and I may sign up for the Rock & Roll marathon "Tour Pass" - all 11 marathons for $399...

I've never done more than one marathon a year, but we think it might be a fun challenge. And they are all in neat places...

I never got the chance to play it, but I understand a large population feels Meier's Alpha Centauri blew Civ out of the water.

Nanometal fluorescence imaging in cells.  Kinda cool, I like it.  (I used to work down the street from you in Nat Sci, assuming the Chem Dept there is still in CC Little.)

Heh heh... I guess you're right. But when I'm coming from the perspective of a 5K/10K athlete during college, it definitely makes the marathon seem long and slow to me.

That sounds like a great time!  Once I get a few under my belt I just might have to do that.  The other one that I really want to do in Grandma's over in Duluth.  I'm heard really great things about that one and it's within a reasonable distance.

I am in that part of the population! Alpha Centauri is great. I have Civ IV now, but I still think Alpha Centauri plays better (but boy does it look dated, now).

I thought Civ IV and AC were the pinnacles of the Sid Meier empire-building games.

Thing is though, they never really captured the originality of the original for me.

When Civ was the only one out, i spent hundreds of hours on it. The others had better gameplay, and snazzy graphics, but the sheeroriginality of the first one just cant be beaten for me.

Itwill always be on my favourites list, right up there with Masters of Orion and Masters of Magic

Civ I -- THIS IS AWESOME

Civ II comes out -- NO WAY, CIV 1 JUST ROCKS SO HARD, I DON'T WANT TO CHANGE
*play Civ I for another year* -- OKAY, FINE, I GUESS I'LL TRY CIV II, BUT I'M NOT GOING TO LIKE IT
*it rocks, I never play Civ I again*

Civ III comes out -- NO WAY, CIV 2 JUST ROCKS SO HARD, I DON'T WANT TO CHANGE
*play Civ II for another year* -- OKAY, FINE, I GUESS I'LL TRY CIV III, BUT I'M NOT GOING TO LIKE IT
*it rocks, I never play Civ II again*

Civ IV comes out, some kindly relative gives it to me as a gift within a few months after its release -- NO WAY, CIV 3 JUST ROCKS SO HARD, I DON'T WANT TO CHANGE
*waited the requisite year*
*got into Total War series*
*now half of a decade has gone by*
*still haven't installed Civ IV*

not sure what to feel

Figure this is a fitting thread to put this in.  I've started playing on goko again.  Gotta get in that dominion fix.  I've already been beaten by stef (although numerous JoaT misclicks contributed slightly).  Anyways, see ya guys on goko, I haven't bought all the sets but I probably will to expedite the process of getting in a good game.

As penance for my absence, here's a dominion story for you guys.

A Knight, a Squire and a Steward walked into a Bard, he kept them all and offered each of them a drink.  The Squire and the Steward were responsible citizens and each made a single choice.  The Knight, however, was not and got absolutely trashed.

I apologize for my attempt at humor, I hope you at least got a chuckle from it.

Yay! Glad you're back!

As for misclicks, the cards that I screw up the most are Storeroom, Jack, Masquerade, and opponent's Vault. But I'm getting better with the latter three. Storeroom I still always screw up.
