This thread is for Role Madness Mafia 5, which will be Shakespeare-themed!  So foul and fair a day I have not seen!

Rest of this post will be modified to reflect the sign-up list and game rules.  I haven't prepared a set of rules yet for a Role Madness game, and want to take some time to do so.

In the meantime, SIGN-UPS ARE OPEN!  If you are interested, please /in and also list up to three Shakespeare plays from which you would enjoy playing a role.  Source material from the canon has not yet been selected, and your preferences may influence those decisions!

The game will have a maximum of 13 players.  The level of bastardry in the setup has NOT yet been determined, but once the setup is finalized I will be publicly disclosing my best estimation of how bastardly (or not) the setup will be.

I am also seeking one or two back-up mods with whom to collaborate on preparing the setup.

SIGN-UP LIST:
1.  Robz888
2.  ashersky
3.  Galzria
4.  Cuzz
5.  Eevee
6.  Glooble
7.  Grujah
8.  Dsell
9.  Insomniac
10.  Jimmmmm
11.
12.

Hamlet, MacBeth and Romeo and Juliet are the only one that I've read, so those.

I also know some basics of Shakespeare coding language, if that helps. Still not sure if /in, depends on level of bastardy, which I usually do not like, but it is Volt's game and those can't fail.

Wasn't thinking about which plays would yield best roles. Definitely have to suggest Midsummer as my top choice now.

Confirming now.

Othello, Richard III, Lear would all make good mafia games.  But really, Much Ado is the only way to go.  Dibs on Benedick.

Could you maybe announce what's this based on asap, so people could read the material if they so desire?

Once material is selected, it will be announced and there will be time before the game starts for folks to do that reading, if they so desire.  It will not be required.

I know that I said I would be in for the next Voltgloss game, but I don't think I will be joining this one. Honestly I haven't enjoyed the RMMM games quite as much as the other mafia games. But I am posting so that I can follow it.

i don't like Lear or Othello

Hamlet is the best! The Tempest and Midsummer are also totes sweet. And Macbeth, kinda.

R&J and Titus Andronicus could be sweet mafia settings.

Is it RMM4 or 5?

Opening says 4, title says 5. It's 5, because it's going to be a delayed start. The signups were just opened for opinion on source material, but it still needs to be written. RMM4 (the real one) will likely launch before this one does. So he's simply not jumping the queue.

This.  I originally called it RMM4 because there is no RMM4 sign-up thread yet, and simply forgot another pending game has that number called.  So it's RMM5.  I updated the title but forgot to fix the opening post - I'll do so now.

Also:  current frontrunner choices are Macbeth and R + J (both tied).  If people want to give their preference between the two, I will not say them nay!  If people want to emphasize other options, that's cool too!

All:  Due to the hurricane, I've had rather a bit less time to work on this than I'd hoped.  But I hope to have some time to work on it over the next week and a half, especially once home power is restored (whenever that is).  We're not starting until after RMM3 ends anyway.

I'm trying to play less Mafia, and more "everything else" as can been seen by all my recent /outs. The only mafia game I'm in is DoMafia, which is just starting up (Well, and XIII, but that's a special case). However eHal's RMM just ended, and was epic. It had an epic Co-Mod in Volt.

Volt, can you speak to how "madness-y this will be? I'm trying to decide if I want more on my plate or not. I've had pretty weak roles in both RMM-I and RMM-III (although no knock on eHal, both games were still terribly fun), so I keep holding out hope that if I sign up for enough of these I'll eventually get a powerful role. :P

Just... How crazy do you think this will play?

Just... How crazy do you think this will play?

It will not be as crazy/complex as either RMM1 or RMM3, most assuredly.  The characteristics that I am currently envisioning (in vaguest possible terms) are:

1.  Everyone will have SOME ability beyond being a pure VT.  Some abilities will be weak, some stronger, but everyone will have something.

2.  No net-negative-utility roles.  (By which I mean:  no one will have a role that will make you think "man I'd have been better off as a pure VT")  There may be roles with drawbacks, but if so they will be counterbalanced with advantages.

3.  I am trying to cobble together all roles from regular roles and modifiers available on the MafiaScum wiki.  I may have one role going outside those bounds, but I'm working to not have that.

4.  There may be ONE bastard-ish element:  the possibility of alignment-switching.  I haven't fully decided yet whether to keep that in or take it out.  If I keep it in, it would be VERY restricted.

5.  There will be no other bastard elements - i.e., lying in PMs, Jesters, etc.

Does that answer your question sufficiently?  I am still in the game-devising stage, so if you have comments/concerns please make them known.

PPE:  Jorbles:  see my comment #s 4 and 5 re: bastardliness.  If #4 is too bastardly, please let me know.

Do you want some ideas?  There is one particular role madness idea I have that I think would be super interesting.  It's a variant on a real role and hasn't been done yet to my knowledge, at least on f.ds.

I don't like alignment switching, but if it's not a full blown cult I'd be okay with it. (Especially if town is aware of the existence of the role.)

It is most definitely not a full-blown cult, or even close to one.

With TheMunch's RMM4 revving up, and with my stepping in to assist in modding the Cosmic Encounter games, I think I'm going to put this on the back burner for now.  It will still happen, but not in the immediate future.  Will update you all as we get closer to launching time!

i personally felt that diplomacy took much more effort than mafia; though it might just take a more consistent effort. i felt disadvantaged having limited availability on weekends.

Bump!  I'm planning to use this week to get this setup finalized.  The only question then is:  when should the game start?  A question on which I'm open to suggestions.  Feel free to either discuss in here or send me a PM.  As of this writing, the current roster of active games and their status is as follows:

M-XI  (Robz megagame, in final day)
M-XV  (Switches mafia, in Lylo)
M-XVI  (Casino Helsinki, in Day 2)
M-XVII  (Buffy mafia, in Day 1)
DoMafia-I  (Dominion mafia, seems late game-ish)
BM-VII  (Morgrim mafia, ????)
BM-VIII  (lolcats, Day 2)
ZM-VI  (Blitz, one lynch to go)
RMM-IV  (Pokemafia, just starting)

I would not want to start until at least M-XI, M-XV, DoMafia-I, and ZM-VI are done.  Should I wait further until some more games are complete?  That's the question on which I'd like feedback.

I would wait until Switch is done as well, and maybe wait until Casino and Buffy are both into at least Night 2.

I generally look at the category of games to try to decide this.

Blitz is done, XI and XV will be done this week.  I think once RMM4 hits D2, you're good to go.

I haven't forgotten this, gang.  It's just been back-burnered by other games.  But my own personal "queue" is starting to empty out.  With my only current games being M-XVI and modding Morgrim Mafia, I think I'll have the time to finalize this.

What do folks prefer:  a start after the New Year, or a start sometime over the holidays?

I suggest after the new year.  With a steady string of Blitz games, two bastard games, and also Buffy/Casino/PokeAwesome running things get a tad busy.  A few people have needed replacing, and it's really hard to find replacements when everybody has at least 2 games going already.

Sometimes it's nice to increase demand by reducing supply.  I think it'll make all the games that much better.

My speedy and untimely death in Major Arcana II means I should have time to finish setting this up this week.

joth, I think you may know too much already from the QT discussions to be a player here, but perhaps I'll be able to sufficiently change things around so that your knowledge is effectively moot.  ;D  Gonna figure that out over the course of the week while finishing this setup.

I am definitely considering /inning for DS9, but I want to finish making this setup first.  I'm tired of leaving this hanging!  I am sure you all are tired of that as well!  :)

Well look who it is.

Wait, have Morgrim and Voltgloss ever both been here at the same time?

Maybe this time'll be different eh? Let's observe quietly!

I found Volt's sudden disappearing worrying enough to do some detective work to see if he has been appearing somewhere else in the internet, and thankfully I'm fairly certain he has. A Voltgloss that's from New Jersey just like ours and seems to have a similarly rich vocabulary posted a comment on youtube just a week ago, so seems he's okay but for one reason or another isn't logging on f.ds, at least for now. (Fwiw that was the only thing I could find he had done anywhere recently. I hope I'm not terribly invading his privacy, I'm sure others have been worried as well so I thought I'd share this.)

This raises more questions than it answers, but I'm just as happy he's not dead.

I see 8 of 10 players that signed up for this originally haven't made the move to the reboot!  You know you want to. :)
