Whats in your Board game collection?

So after not really discovering boardgames until December last year when I wandered into a department store and saw the games section, my collection has grown rapidly:

(rated out of five stars)

Carcassonne (+Builders and Traders)   ****
Dominion (All Except Dark Ages)     *****
Fluxx    */**** (Non gamers/Gamers)
Settlers of Catan (+Seafarers)   ****
Turbo Taxi      *
Arkitechtron    *
Citadels     ***
Stone Age   ****
Munchkin    ***
Incan Gold    *****/***  (Non gamers/Gamers)
Ticket to Ride (original)   ****
Fallen City of Karaz (Kickstarter not yet arrived)
Creationary (Awful Lego pictionary game)    *
High Society   ***
Alhambra (Card version)   ***
King of Tokyo    **

Games I intend to buy shortly:
Smash Up
Kingdom Builder
Infiltration

I'm not a mad collector with over 200 games, but since I've started with the hobby I've amassed some 70 games, expansions and promos included.

I won't list them all, but I try to have a game for every occasion.
This means I have some party games to play with my parents, siblings and associated significant others, Dixit (Odyssey) is a good example.

I also have some 2 player games to play with my wife: Jaipur and Lost Cities.

Then I have an extensive collection to use with my play group and these are mostly ~4p euros: Stone Age, Agricola, Dominion, etc...

My latest purchase has been Flash Point which I'm anxious to try.

Uh-oh....

To expand, i played this at a Board games club a few months back. Terrible Terrible game. Firstly its Co-op. Secondly its a bit too easy (New version may change that). its also not got much depth, the standard tactics seem to be that you split into 2 groups one of which is fighting the fire, the other is saving the hostages. I just cant see it has much replay value once you have 'won' it.

Although I did play an older version, I believe the newer one has extra stuff included.

I don't know, my version includes special roles.

It has a "family" and advanced version which you can pick and the board is double sided with a simpler and more difficult layout. The family version would likely be very simple, but I would want to try it with the special roles.

This version also has "hazardous materials" for extra difficulty and there are expansions for it.

I don't mind that it's coop, this game is meant to be played with my parents and siblings and they're not die hard gaming fans like me. In choosing a coop I would like to create an interactive experience and let them contribute to the game without making decisions for hem.

...my collection has grown rapidly:
The forum is bound to have quite a few hoarders, so actually listing the games here would became a bit pointless.

I have no need to own anything as I mostly play in a local club where a few frequent visitors own 200-650 games each. That said, I still own roughly 100 games (listed in BGG under the same username). My "collection" is a bit weird since I don't own most of my favorite games since I get to play them enough anyway, and in case of games with expansions (Power Grid, (Age of) Steam, Dominion etc) there will always be someone who owns everything and my copy with no/few expansions would be pointless anyway. For Dominion I have still bought most sets, even though I mostly play with someone else's set.

Nowadays I try to only buy stuff that people I know do not own, and the total count remains low as some guys buy almost everything worth playing/trying. In fact, many of them are right now in Essen collecting the crop for this year.

Much old school, did take a while until the kids grew up to appreciate moderately complex games.
I am not in contact with other gamers, the "buy stuff sb else does not own" worked for me 25 years ago but not any more.

But "get one game yorself, give one to either kid and your wife for Christmas" works for me  ::)

Cool photo, you must have a fun household.

The paragraph beside the picture struck me as odd though.  It reads:

"This photo was taken on September 09, 2012 at 03:12 PM and uploaded on September 09, 2012 at 01:19 PM."

Does one of your games supply time-travel capability? Or did I miss something?

Dominion (all expansions), Catan, some party crap.  I only know 1 other board gamer and rarely see him.  Too bad.  I enjoy lots of the games I try online.

My game collection

Family Games
Monopoly
Risk
Scattergories
Clue
Battleship

Trivia Games
Who Wants to be a Millionaire
Bezzerwizzer
Trivial Pursuit
Trivial Pursuit Bet You Know It

The rest (stuff I play more)
Dominion (+ All expansions)
Alhambra
Infiltration
Heroes of Graxia (I lied about playing this more, this game is awful)
Quarriors! (+first exapansion)
Agricola (+Farmers of the Moor Expansion)
Puerto Rico
Kingdom Builder (+Nomads)
Order of the Stick (I don't play this one often either but it is fun once in a while just takes a long time)
Ascension (+ All Expansions)
Nightfall (+ All Expansions)
Thunderstone Advance
Catan Card Game (+ Expansions) [NOT RIVALS]
7 Wonders (+Both expansions)
Super Munchkin
Catan (+Cities and Knights)
Small World Underground (+ Realms)
Resistance

On its way
Gauntlet of Fools
Smallworld normal

I play Dominion the most then most of the other games get at least some attention and more attention when they're newer or an expansion just came out.

Here's my list of all games played, and all games owned

I blame New York City apartments for my lack of a more substantial game collection.

My latest purchase has been Flash Point which I'm anxious to try.
Don't listen to the naysayers; Flash Point is my favorite co-op game. I just got to play the new expansion I kickstarted last night.

It's definitely an accessible game, and the theme is a very strong part of that. People I've played Pandemic with who weren't very excited liked Flash Point much more; it's a lot more personal-viewpoint. "Save the kitty!"

It is fun, although limited somewhat by the style of the text on the cards usually. They write things in a certain way and if all of a sudden you are writing for 15 minutes and the Reader has an essay to read, you dfon't get so many points!

Magic: The Gathering
Battlestar Galactica + Pegasus expansion (most played game)
A Game of Thrones (was most played, now obsolete due to 2nd edition)
Bang!
Muchkin Booty (ugh)

Homemade:
Dominion + Intrigue (yeah  :-[)
Gosu (still unplayed)

I used the be the only guy in gaminggroup with actual games for quite a while, fortunately that changed. We now have Twilight Imperium, Nightfall, Diskworld, aGoT Second Edition x2, Arkham Horor + expansion, another copy of BSG + Pegasus + Exodus, Race for the Galaxy, Bang!: The Bullet, some other Munchkin among ourselves.

Ozle, you should invest in the Cities and Knights expansion for Settlers.  It is my favourite.  I've played Seafarers but didn't think it added enough to justify the purchase.

Unfortunately it doesn't come to the table enough to warrant another expansion, the people i p lay with are just no good at it

Yeah, I hear you.  Nothing here in Florida that I've found.  Need to dig deeper, on Meetup or something.  The local game store is all about MtG and miniatures.

There were game players at Chapel Hill when I was there though.  'Course that was a long time ago.  We would start every semester with a 72-hour marathon of Risk, played with two boards side by side and double the number of armies. This was in Granville South.  Put an ad in the DTH.

I'm actually leaving Chapel Hill tomorrow!  I did go to the (only?) local game store a few times on their board game night, but as with a lot of gaming groups, they seemed pretty close-knit and were already playing things when I got there.  Yeah, most gaming groups seem heavily based on MtG or miniatures in my experience... I got enough of MtG in the 90s.

Having a gaming group isn't always gravy though.

I have a gaming group made up of a bunch of friends I've known for some 5 years.
The thing is, in that time, I've gotten married and became a father while they're still going out every weekend getting drunk and drifting towards their 30's without any improvement in their lives. They're still doing exactly the same things as when they were 21.

Now I don't want to judge them because they can do whatever the hell they want, it's just that our lifestyles have gone "out of sync" as it were. They don't understand what it's like to have a meaningful relationship and to start a family.

I would love to find some new friends who understand when I can't make gamenight because the baby has been crying all day and my wife is at her wit's end. Also I would like some friends who actually think about the neighbors when they come over and not shout all night driving my wife insane.

On the other hand, I'm moving to my old village in a couple of weeks and maybe there will be some new neighbors interested in board games there who are socially acceptable. Fingers crossed!

I own about 6 or 8 games, so the 20-30 in your list would be an improvement.  I also have no gaming group, so that seems like a luxury. Desparate? Not yet, as Iso is still up.  But the odds of finding boardgamers in NY are exponentially astronomically larger than my finding them where I am. However, I have not yet begun to look. ;)

Of course.  Thank you kind sir.

Not sure as the photo hosting company is sitting in the same time zone as me. Might be a pathetically out of time clock on my camera.

You do seem to be using some sort of judgment on your friends when you use the word "improvement". Whether having kids is an improvement of your life is debatable, but more power to you that you see it that way during the first couple of weeks. The taxi driver giving me a ride home from the hospital (in Germany kids are routinely delivered in hospital, though some people opt for home births) said to me "it'll get more and more fun over time" and 9 years later I still think he was right!

My board game collection does bear some of the experience you are just making. A couple of months befor my first child was born, my friends got me "Age of Renaissance" for birthday, that Civilzation sequel which had taken me 13 hours on first try but had been loads of fun. I have left my copy alone, apart from removing the wrap, ever since. My current game buddies (neighbours and hiking club members) won't touch anything longer or more demanding than Ticket to Ride, Alhambra, or Wizards. My wife and kids would play the occasional Cyclades or 7 Wonders, but it takes a friend's 14yo son and his friend to open the Through the Ages box. The old classics (Titan, Britannia, 18xx) are gathering dust.

1001 decks of cards

Are 999 of them worn or do you always open a new one for a Poker match?

Most aren't open. I'll usually buy sets by the pack of 10 or 20, open/use a handful, forget how many unopened I have, and buy a new set of packs. Rinse, repeat.

I have masses of random packs around the house, some are half used for magic tricks, the others were just cool looking cards I have seen. I have Kem cards for poker that dont wear out easily, more than a years use of them so far

I own scrabble, balderdash and alias, nothing else. They are all fun games though!

Balderdash used to be my favourite game ever!

Balderdash is great. I have that in my collection along with Wise and Otherwise, which I think is the "better Balderdash." When we have family events at holidays, that's the game we gravitate toward. It's basically the same rules as Balderdash, but uses ancient/foreign phrases instead of words. It gives more structure to what each person submits. It's hilarious as everyone tries to reason out what those sayings could mean.

Example:
There's an old Chinese saying, "Don't add salt to..."

"...a boatload of salt fish." Of course!!

I've recently started to get board games for myself. I've been in two different gaming clubs that own a lot of games too. But just like some other people here, life is catching up with me. Three years ago I woul've said that I'd be the annoying guy who wanted to come over to friends' places to play games. Now I live with my girlfriend so I can't really do that. The good thing is that she likes games too, so we get to play a lot. My friends have also moved to other cities to pursue their studies and almost everyone of them has gotten partners. Most of them are fine with the occasional board game night, though, so I'm not a girlfriend/boyfriend hater. Not at all. But it's not really common for us to sit down a weekend and play a bunch of Twilight Imperium games, but rather get as many fast played games as possible and rotate seats during game nights. Anyways, the games me and my girlfriend currently owns (I don't really remember which ones I've bought and which ones she's bought):

Kindgom Builder
Dominion (with all expansions and promos)
Nefarious
Carcasonne Big Box 3
Ricochet Robots
Race For the Galaxy (with the expansion that gives the 1p option)
Set
Neuroshima Hex (with the two expansions, but no promos)
Titan
Power Grid

I might have missed something, but that's the general idea.

Here's my list: http://boardgamegeek.com/collection/user/GendoIkari_82?own=1&subtype=boardgame&ff=1

62 games, though that count includes expansions, as well as a couple non-Eurogames that don't really count.

I'm a lifelong video gamer who has recently (last year or two) gotten into some strategy card games, so my list is short:

Dominion (base through alchemy)
Citadels
Race For the Galaxy

I bought RFTG last week and I have to say that I am becoming completely obsessed with it. Keldon's AI is pretty amazing. Now if only I had some friends to play it with IRL...

Played Arkham Asylum last weekend, was surprisingly quite interesting, esp for a fully cooperative game.

Games I own:
Dominion (except for Alchemy and Prosperity): Obviously awesome.
Twilight Struggle: It is really good, but it's hard to find time and someone to play against.
Puerto Rico: This was probably the first board game I got really into. In university my friends would play this game constantly.
Carcassonne: It's good, but it usually comes down to the farmers. I've heard some of the expansions deal with my complaints, but I've never investigated.
Settlers of Cataan: I almost never play it anymore.
Brass: It's a little long, but it's actually a really well designed game. It's so dedicated to accurately representing this portion of history and in spite of that it's still fun and balanced.
Kill Dr. Lucky: Basically a prequel to Clue. I have the old Cheap Ass version. It's okay for a few rounds, it's certainly funny, but it gets a little repetitive once people get a hang of the strategy.
Blokus Trigon: I prefer this to the original Blokus. I think the geometry of triangles makes it better. It's fun, but not everyone gets into this super abstract type of game.
Pandemic: I prefer, but do not have the space for Arkham Horror, but this is okay if you want to play something cooperative. Suffers from the fact that you could play it by yourself.
Innovation (with expansion): Innovation is fun, but incredibly swingy. The expansion makes an already complicated game much more complex. I wouldn't bother with it, but the original is neat and I love the physical design of the game.
Aquaretto: If you were put off by Zooloretto, this game takes all the problems of Zooloretto and fixes them. It's a drafting game combined with a space management game combined with running an aquarium.
Chess, Backgammon, Crib: My favourite of the classics.
Pente: A simple, but deep game played on a Go board.
Galaxy Trucker: Crazy and fun. Really swingy, but it's so chaotic and the theme is so fun, that I never seem to mind.
Scrabble: I don't play it much, but I do like this game. It's a classic.
Bananagrams: All the fun word knowledge of Scrabble with the space control game removed. There's greatly accelerated gameplay. I would recommend this to anyone.
Dixit: A good game for non gamers. Pick it up if you're looking for an alternative to Apples to Apples.
Power Grid: I'm sure you've heard of it. Drafting, auctioning, resource management, expansion. It's got a lot of great things. It's better with more people, but my biggest complaint would be that rules are finicky. I have never played it without having to dig through its rule book.

Stuff I'd like to add:
-Eclipse
-Cosmic Encounter (thanks Axxle!)
-Nefarious
-Ticket to Ride

Carcassonne: It's good, but it usually comes down to the farmers. I've heard some of the expansions deal with my complaints, but I've never investigated.

Farmers have been changed to be worth only 3 points per completed city instead of 4.

I've only played it a couple of times since that rule was changed. I can't say that I noticed a huge difference, but I believe it's there.

All the dominion expansions (and dominion)

A copy of Ticket to Ride I found for 10 bucks because the box was slightly damaged

Therapy: the game, which I got as a jokey gift, and is not a terrible game if you were just teleported here from the 80s.

It's tough for me to buy something if I don't know 100% I'll get a ton of use out of it, and currently these along with a deck of cards is generally enough. At some point I'll buy Mr. Jack, though I'm not sure when.
